Rearview radar detector
I was wondering if anyone has come across any radar detectors built into your rearview mirror and could you tell me where
? And i don't mean those clip on detectors. I would really like to get my hands on one.
Havn't seen the rear view ones, but there is an install guide on here I believe, that shows you how to hard wire one into the hot wire for your dome light............pretty neat...

they are custom jobs. you can typically get a valentine v1 (front and rear protection) etched into a rear view. you will lose auto-dimming features on the mirror. expect to pay about $850 all in for that accessory.
Just remember that the higher you mount the radar detector, the less effective it will be. The optimal mounting point is at the base of the windshield right in the center. Just make sure the wipers don't block it.

As a rule of thumb, a lower detector mounting position is better for laser and a higher position is better for radar. But, in most vehicles, the difference in height between the top and bottom of the windshield is not enough to make any perceptible difference in radar reception. It's best to mount your detector where it has a clear field of view front and rear, and where you can see it without obstructing your own view of the road.
hhmmm..........I've always been told by people to mount it low for the best range of protection. My bro in law is a cop and said that the lower point of the bumper is where they target radar and laser so the lower the scan of the radar detector, the better. Eh, oh well. Whatever works. I'll just keep mine low.
where you mount the receiver and where you mount the led display are 2 different things.
he was originally asking about an led display embedded in the mirror. the v1 separates the two, as do a few other models.
and knightrider, you can buy that somewhat 'off the shelf'. if you are interested i will see if i can find a link.

This is one for a BMW:

Hmm, this one is only $200 for the mirror, then you just need to buy the V1 brains:

wha..... i JUST mounted my radar left of the rear view mirror....
According to this forum, if your hit by laser, your practically done for. Not enough time to decrease your speed significantly. However, radar isn't like laser in that it goes in waves and not a straight line. Mounting it higher won't make a significant difference, however logically it would be ideal.
I dont know, heres the forum:

The best deal I've seen is the Valentine 1 mounted up high near the rear-view mirror. The V1 also gives you the Radar type and direction as to where it's coming from, very handy. I'm upgrading to it from my RX65 Beltronics for the directional detection alone
