Default Refrigerator in tC?

Does anyone have any idea how to turn the center console into a small fridge for some cold drinks on a road trip. I just thought this would be a COOL idea (no pun intended, haha)
But seriously, I wonder if it can be done of it anyone has done it. Pix would be awesome.

Why don't you just buy a small refrige that plugs into one of the cig. lighters? Target should have them and they shouldn't cost more then $30-$40.

i put a plastic lineing(i think i spelled it wrong)in the foam storage part of the trunk and put a bag of ice and some beers drove like 45 min to a friends house. the beers were cold but the ice melted pretty quick.since the bag was never open i didnt have a puddle in the trunk.so maybe something could be done with that space?

look up Peltier coolers, they are ususally used in cooling computer processors down, but can be used for refrigeration or freezing. Look on an electronics or computer website. The only issue is that this would be a mod from the ground up unless you want to put something in there that is store bought. Otherwise, you can increase the enclosure size, insulate it, put in a couple of these coolers, run the wiring with a switch and you are good to go. Another advantage of these coolers is that if you flip them around they can also heat. Therefore, you could have a heater/cooler for your food and drinks.

Just my thoughts on what you could do.

"Peltier cooler" is a slang term for a "TEC" (Thermo Electric Cooler), which works on the Peltier principal. There are many types of these, which function differently at various voltages, so a person really needs to know what they're doing in order to make them function as intended. Both sides of a TEC also need heatsinks, and often fans, in order to function efficiently.

In fact the previously mentioned "mini-fridge" from Target and other places utilize a TEC as their means of cooling. If you look at the rear or top (depending on model) of them you can see the hot side heatsink & fan.

The least expensive and easiest way to turn the tC's center console into a cooler might be to purchase one of the mini-fridges and raid it for parts. Use the fridge's heatsink/fan for the hot side, and find and appropriate sized heatsink for the cold side, as it'll have to fit inside the console and leave room for whatever you want to chill. You'd likely also need to vent the surround console plastic so the hot side heat could escape, and you should be able to spray expanding poly-foam around the console compartment from the bottom side (with console removed) to act as insullation.

As someone stated, the mini-fridges don't get very cold, but because the tC's console is considerably smaller (fridge holds a 6pack), it should get colder. I really don't think it's worth all the trouble, but maybe some won't mind all the work required to do it correctly.
