Default Rewiring 12V outlet

Would there be any drawback to rewiring the cigarette lighter outlet or the 12V outlet in the armrest to an "always on" fuse? Would battery drainage or anything become a larger problem?

I know it would be something fairly easy to implement, and I think it'd be nice to be able to charge my phone, etc, when the car is off.

the cig lighter is not always on

when i turn my car off my cell charger turns off

so you would need to find the remote wire and take that off

if its like a 500ma charger or lower you would be ok for over night

Why not buy a home charger instead of ripping up wires and risk draining your battery, thats an easy way to get stranded out in the middle of no where

i don't think battery drainage would be a problem at all since the only time it would be draining it is if something were to be plugged in, and something like a cell phone would barely put a dent on a car battery...my audi was like that and I had no issues at all...

but like i said, it's only taking from the battery if something is plugged in, otherwise it's just a live circut waiting to be closed...

there would be no problem, other than draining the battery. cell phone charger, radar detector, etc. would probobally kill the battery the same way leaving the dome light on will. you could install a switch, but you would have to remember to switch it off at night.

I wouldn't use it for overnight charging, I have a home charger. I just think it would be convenient to leave the phone charging when I run into the grocery store, etc. if I forgot to charge it at night.

Thanks for the input, I'll probably look into this when I get time.

It's all about how you go and do it, it shouldn't be that hard...
