Default Satallite Radio?

Those of you who have the factory setup how well does it work compared to an after market receiver /controller like:

I want to keep my stock HU for now, i don't want to sink tons of cash into it right now, but i really want Sat. Radio. Eventually i want to get a nice alpine w/ the touch screen so I'm sure no solution i get now will be compatible.

yeah if you switch from factory to aftermarket you almost always need a differant set up.

If you get what you are showing in the picture you can have it in any situation (as long as fm is availiable)
The one you show broadcast over fm . Sounds decent. Just like an FM station.

the factory sound quality, Icant say anything about but usually when you have a direct hook up it sounds better.

To me it looks better to have the factory. no messy wires or odd looking display.

yea, thats whats killing me is the wires.

something like the Alpine CDA-9883 and the appropriate Sirius receiver would be about $300, and give me more support for my mp3 player and sat radio. Also if i recall the Alpines can retain the steering wheel controls so thats a plus, i think the only thing i would lose is the AUX jack in the console.

There are many aftermarket radios that have adaptors to use the steering wheel controls.

I personally think the best option would be an aftermarket stereo that comes sat radio ready. Get the adaptor for it and you're good to go. It will sound the best, and it will be easy to use with the additional functionality of your MP3 player, etc... Not to mention that it might help the looks of your interior (depending on what you are going for).

When getting an aftermarket stereo, you will most likely lose the Aux Jack, but if you get an aftermarket stereo, you prolly won't need that anymore. After all, getting a new stereo is generally thought as an upgrade, and the Aux will simply be an option that is built into the stereo (i.e. Sat radio is no longer an aux option... it's built in).

I prefer a stand alone for my sat. radio. I have mine hard wired in so I don't use the lighter plug. You can conceal it to where you don't see much if any of the two wires that go to it. I just like being able to keep the radio going and scanning my xm to see if there is anything I want to switch to.

Plus, if you already have it, why shell out 300-400 bucks for the adapter?

I think the stock sat radio worked pretty good. If your looking for a quick fix you should buy my stock sirius setup. glass mount antenna, harness, and brain for $150
