Scion Nav System - hackable?
So, I searched but I couldnt find anything in the older threads... but basically I had the Scion Nav system ordered with the car and installed from the factory. It's great, except that it basically completely locks itself up while the car is in motion, locking you out of most features, which is annoying. I was wondering if there was any way around this?
That's my main concern, the other one was that the DVD system will only play map DVD's. anyone know of a way to get it to play regular DVDs too? Thanks in advance.

you have two choices here:
Find someone with the 5.1 navigation dvd and create a hybrid disc using the 5.1 nav OS but the most updated maps (from the DVD the dealer gave you with your Scion Navigation unit). If you install your nav OS with this new hybrid disc, you'll be able to access a special maintenance window that has a motion override available. Catch is that A.) you have the older version of the navi software and B.) you have to activate this override every time you turn on your car.
The other option is that you start cutting wires in the wiring harness. There is one wire in particular (search these forums for which wire to cut) that deals with the speed sensor. A few options here if you wish to pursue this. You can cut the wire altogether, but then your nav gets jumpy, doesn't work underground/parking/garages/tunnels/etc or out of GPS range. This will also screw up destination times and so on. However, you can use all the features you mentioned while moving.
There are people who cut this wire and then install a switch. The switch will connect the wire to give you the nav's normal way of functioning, if you flip it the other way though, you can use the destination features as if you were standing still.
Those are your only options at this time that I know of.
