Default scratched up the long silver plastic center console

Okay, long story short, my GF was wearing some high-heel boots that have these hook/eyelet things for fast lacing. She passes out in the passenger seat after mad clubbin one night, and her left leg was rubbing along the silver "waterfall" slope of the center console. In the morning, I noticed that it had the ____ scratched out of it!

(i'm talking about the right side there, starting from about where the glovebox handle is, going down to about an inch past the seam where the shift is even with -- so yeah, both of those pieces. ugh!)

So... it seems like they're surface scratches, and if I knew the right color/proceedure, I could mask, sand and paint it myself -- keep in mind, i've never done anything like this before.

I asked my dealer and they want like $120+ for that replacement of the WHOLE top console part (with the HVAC, door, etc)!

Anyone know :
  • what the make/model/color paint is that will match the factory -- Scion won't sell it. i asked.
  • what words of wisdom to paint and make it look professional? clear coat? primer?
  • what that / those pieces I need are called (or model numbers) -- maybe i can find them on eBay or a junk-yard?
  • does some 3rd party make some carbon-fiber stickers or something that maybe I can just use instead? (i have CF on the doors outside and my shift, so it could match okay)

Or you could just buy the pieces themselves from www.getscionparts.com , might be about $60.

Painting it is easy...
Any spray paint will really do and then just get automotive sand paper and read the back it tells you what ones to get in order to get the job right
Duplicolor makes a good paint that everyone seems to use for our dashes

my friend ahd a glowstick explode inside his har..long story short, its about the same situation..i painted it for him....

heres a walkthrough on how to paint
TAKE A WHOLE DAY OFF FOR THIS IF YOU WANT IT TO BE NICE AND SMOOTH

AVOID ELECTRIC SANDERS [do it by hand]

first remove the pieces that you want to paint out of the car (some people actually tape off their car and spray inside)

then sand the piece down, i like to use 120grit at first until its smooth and then 320 to make it even smoother
after this it is so important that you clean the piece, i use rubbing alcohol because it evaporates quickly and it cleans great
after this the piece is ready to paint, spray carefully, not too close but not too far a really light layer and wait for it to dry...(spray a zone that you wont see when you put the piece back in so you can test if its dry) REMEBER TO TAKE YOUR TIME...DONT RUSH IT

after that if there are any uneven spots from the spraypaint because of dripping paint or w/e take the 320 grit sandpaper or higher grit (i sometimes use 1000) (the higher the grit the finer the paper)
dip the sandpaper in water, this is called wetsanding, its much softer, and sand over what you painted to make it even, then clean again...
now spray the second coat and repeat wetsanding and cleaning after it dries....
i like to do at least 3 coats of paint

after get a clear coat and spray again, i dont like to wetsand over clear coats, but you can do it, it might mess up and u'll have 2 redo all the coats......

tips:

light coats at all times
dont get too close
take your time, sand carefully, dont overdo it...but dont do it too lightly

thats about it....good luck =D

what are the part models or names? i downloaded some huge .zip file with a billion little 1 page PDFs in it and hunted, but couldn't find those exact parts. Seems I found everything but them.

LOL

Dude, I have so many "Stiletto Heel Scuff Marks" all over her side of the car from her wearing "just the shoes". Mostly they're all in the black parts and are whispy thin lines, but this silver really shows the scratches. You're right though, generally those little scratches are well worth it. :D

Oh, and she'd never chance breaking a nail painting my car...

If these heel marks were on the roof, I'd have to give ya props!

Good luck if you decide to paint the pieces!

I had some scratches on mine (the left lower wing, from my right leg or something). DavedavetC and I went the whole nine yards (primer, base, clearcoat).

(sorry about the tilt; it's a bit late to go fix it tonight)
