Default which set of components

So I'm looking to upgrade my audio system a bit more. I plan on getting a eD stealth set up with an SQ10 sub. I was originally planning on pushing it with 400w from a bridged NINe.2 several have told me that I should get a NINe.4 instead. This would leave me with two extra channels with which I could amp a front stage so now I'm looking for a decent but cheap set of component speakers. I've been researching on Crutchfield and and the
Infinity Reference 5020cs components seem to be what I'm looking for. Good price, good name, and can handle the 65w that the NIN.e will push to them. Does anyone have experience with these? I want to make sure that I'll be happy with them before I drop cash.

The other set I've been considering so far is the Elemental Designs e3.65i System. They're priced really well... which is better, the Infinitys, the eDs, or something else....

I have the 6020cs components, and I love them. Very good midbass response and the tweeters are pronounced without being too edgy. I haven't finished installing my amp yet, but they sound great off of my Pioneer FH8000BT HU. I'll probably get the amp installed next weekend.

They're the same model, but the 6 1/2" version. Why would you get the 5 1/4"?

yeah get the 6.5" for the fronts as that is all you will need......you can make a trim ring to mount them or get one from Doc I or elemential designs.......

The NINe.4 will power them jsut fine.......I only have 85w going to my ED 9000s and they are loud as can be.......I still say your sub will be under powered though.

lol you guys have been in every thread I make over my audio stuff haha thanks so much for the help.

and BZinn, about the sub power, if you look at the SQ10 power info page, 150w falls right in the middle of its yellow (ideal) area, while 400w is approaching the red zone. Plus nebster recommends the NINe.4 over the NINe.2 and he appears to know more about wheels and speakers than anyone... I appreciate all your help though, and if I end up being dissatisfied due to lack of power I'll let you know so you can say "I told you so"

I recommend the Phoenix Gold RSD components. The sound can't be beat for the price. And I would skip that SQ10 sub. Its a waste of money.

The 6020cs most definitely fit in the front doors. I made myself some baffles out of 3/4" MDF and they dropped right in perfectly.

I'd probably go with something different, but then again I wouldn't buy any of the things you listed, so you obviously have different goals/taste for me. 150rms for a sub? I MUST have read that wrong, thats redic. The $15 sub I bought at best buy a year ago for fun(sitting on the floor of my room) can take more than that. I personally wouldn't waste time and waste money on a sub thats less than 500wrms.

Also, crutchfield sucks dick, go to www.sonicelectronix.com and look around.

Not a problem.......but you will be pushing the max to the subs that amp can give.....been there done that......it really is not enough......but then enough is up to each individual.

this guy makes me lol

and BZinn, I'm just worried about overpowering this SQ10 with 400w, but at the same time I don't want to underpower it... maybe I'll check out some other amps.

You do not need to use the whole 400w........I powered mine with 300 off my NINe.5.When you tune the amp properly using a DMM and a tone disk you take the risk out of blowing up a sub or amp. Also pushing an amp to its max to power a sub will not give a good clean signal.I bench tested my NINe.4 and I was gettign closer to 180w out of it so ED products do give more than they list.

By using a NINe.2 you also have the ability to upgrade the subs for future upgrades which is a great thing to be able to do.the nice thing about ED products is they do work very well,I found my stealth setup was muffled by the floor board more than I liked and did not keep up with the volume of my comps. In my case I swapped it out for two ID10s and am pushing them with the NINe.5 still at about 550w and it is very clean and loud.

Just be sure to tune the amp properly and it should be fine....and be sure not to overpower the comps so they over power sound wise the sub,a system needs to blend together.

400w may be a little too much if the amp is 400w RMS; look at the RMS value more so than the peak power. The sub will hardly ever, unless tuning precise sine waves, make or need the peak power. However, it will continuously run at the RMS value so if you get an amp running 400w RMS you will severely overpower the sub but one around 200-300w RMS, 600w peak (give or take a little) would be ideal.

Under powering a sub is much more harmful than overpowering it....both could potentially seize the sub coil.

I personally refer Kicker amps, ZX series, so I would go Kicker ZX 300.1

That particular amp gives you 300w RMS and 600w peak.

BTW, Kicker underrates their amps so peak would be more close to ~620-635w

If you are wanting something that can run both the components and sub with a single amp I would get the Kicker ZX 350.4 run the components off the front and sub off the rear.

However, if you go with that setup then for aforementioned Infinity/eD or Polk db series (preferably) components would be ideal since there would not be enough power running off the front channels for the Polk Momo components.

Here is a great link to a stealth setup that could be done with minor tools and little bit of time........and it is stealth and looks great.
