Default Short life - Silverstar

I bought my Silverstar bulbs at Autozone last December and it was really nice. I would say it made my Tc look better for a very low price. Then a month ago, i decided to clean my engine in the afternoon. When i was about to go out that night, my right bulb was not turning on. Since i was so in a hurry, i changed only the busted bulb back to the OEM headlamps and left the working silverstar on. I assumed that it was because i washed the engine bay that the light did not work anymore. Then last night, normal day, no cleaning of engine bay, the working silverstar stopped working. I was very disappointed that both lasted for about six months.

I really wanted to get PIAA xtreme whites however it was just double the price. Now i am decided to get PIAA instead of Silverstars for replacement. I just wanted to share my experience with silverstar bulbs. I really liked how they made my car look nice but then i suppose they dont last. This happening to one bulb maybe nothing, but both bulbs is something else. I dont know how other's experience would be and i am sure it is different. I really dont have any electrical mods except for the Silverstars and LEB interior and exterior bulbs.

I would advise others who are planning to change to silverstars not to expect too much with a $40 bulb.

I've had my Silverstars since late '03 in two different cars with no problems...

I had them in my Matrix (with DRLs, they were always on) then in my xB... At one point I did replaced them with Luminics which burnt out in one month. I put the Silverstars back in, and they still work to this day. Well worth the 40 bucks IMO.

I just bought new Silverstars as well, and I got mine less than a year ago. Oh well, ya get good ones, ya get bad ones.

Many Silverstars burn out quickly. Both of the ones I put in my ex's car burned out in a few months (one day after the other) which I caught hell over since she had to drive with only the aux lights. So I took mine out too and replaced them with OEM so I wont risk getting caught out with a blown bulb (giving cops a reason to pull me over).

They just aren't worth the money for the minimal brightness over OEM, if any (they are tinted afterall, which reduces brightness). I think they're overdriven to be brighter, thus the short life. Look on their website and they specifically state a short life.

i've had my piaa xtreme whites since i got my car back in 04 and they're great. just remember when handling the bulbs to either not touch the bulb itself or just handle them with gloves. the oil from your hands will cause the bulbs to possibly burn out faster.

And FYI I never touched the bulbs on the Silverstars I mentioned. I've installed probably a hundred bulbs (my old job).

BTW, I once covered a bulb in motor oil, baby oil, and tried a few other things, but could not get it to burn out or explode. I even wrapped it in aluminum foil and overvolted it for probably and hour. All it did was expand/deform a little bit. Never burned out.
