Default stock head unit not working - after some wiring issues

so i know enough to be dangerous i guesss ... i was installing a line-level converter to the right rear speaker, and when i spliced the speaker wire, one of them touched the body metal and i saw a little spark. well - i thought nothing of it and took care after words.

low and behold - i fire up the head unit - and nothing. its dead. checked the 20A fuse under the hood (# and its good. so i think by shorting the wires, i either:
- blew a fuse that exists on the head unit OR
- blew the internal circuit of the head unit - which would make me angry that pioneer does not provide any circuit protection for shorting speaker wires.

i'd like some help
- how to remove the head unit properly without breaking anything.

thanks fellas.

i opened the console and the head unit and dont see any fuses.

this is bad i think - I wanted to know if just replacing my speakers voids my head units warranty? I dont think it should.

Also, anyone selling their head unit? Its the one that has IPOD capability with 2 rotary ***** in the front and the SSP button in the middle as usual.

thanks!

they will find out u ahve replaced ur speakers..figure something shorted out
and thats the end of that, so instead of wasting ur time..id try and find somenoe who is selling their iPod unit

unless the advisor at the dealer really wants to take care of you

not alot of dealers have electrical specialists for sommin like this
you could take it in, ahve them see what it was (most likely the head unit)
but they will charge you at LEAST 1hr to inspect it

Ouch, sorry to hear bout that man...those speaker wires go directly to the HU, so I can 99% sure say that you fried the HU itself. Usually with wires going to ground like that you'll just ground it out and when you fix the wire it will continue to play as normal, this is the case with most aftermarket Pioneers. I guess the stock HU on our cars aren't exactly like the aftermarkets.

Good luck with it, maybe the dealer will be willing to take care of ya.

I'm getting more used to the idea that just the HU is bust. Hopefully this is the case.

Anyone looking to sell their 06 TC HU with IPOD, let me know.

I would just bring it in to a dealership and let them inspect it. You might get a new unit for free...

its ppl like you that ____ off dealers, and cause them to not want to fix cars
even if he takes it out,lies....they'll still catch it
the unit just doesn't short out like that, without a legit reason

FuŠk off... I'd never do it, but he's trying to get it fixed and that's the only way even remotely possible.. you don't even know me and you cast judgement just because I make a suggestion on how to get it done?? like I said, it's dishonest and I wouldn't do it, but that may be his only shot...

u f*** off, why make a stupid suggestion to him like that??
if you wouldn't do it, don't encourage him to
if he brought it in, and explained himself and what happnd, they would be willing to try and help him out more, than if he came in and lied

he hasn't gone into the dealer yet, u dunno how much they will charge.
like i said, if hes honest up front, MOST dealers (like myself) would try and help the kid out, cut him a break. but when u start lying, tryin to deceive the dealer, they will bend you over and try and take ur money
