Is the stock Pioneer radio in a 2005 tc Single DIN ?
I ask because it looks like its double DIN- but posts here indicate that installing a new Head Unit that's double DIN requires some bracket work drilling.
If the stock ones double DIN, then why the need to drill out the brackets to make it sit back far enough to allow the cover to close?

it is a double din size BUT it is actually wider than a regular double din. SO when tyou install an aftermarket radio you still need a kit that has about 1/4 of an inch of plastic on each side and spaces the brackets out far enough to still mount the radio.
The part about the door closing is because the aftermarket radios face sticks out further than the factory radio because the factory radios were "designed" to be used with that door. Aftermarket radios do not have to take that into consideration when they build their radios.
It all depends what aftermarket radio you go with as well. Some radios that I have found will still let the door close while others no matter how far you space it back its not going to close ( while still having it look normal with the door open aka not having a huge hole all the way around the radio )
