Default stupid but simple question

was wondering if subs are dangerous to my electronics (like computers, electronic memory stuff). im moving back up north for school again and i was wondering if it is safe to have my computer near the subwoofer.

Floppies will get nuked.

Hard drives, memory cards, CD's and whatnot, No worries
they are all solid state and will be fine.

I'd be more worried about bumps then electromagnitism.

Hard Drives will get damaged. The disc platter in the hard drive contains magnetic signatures consisting of 1's and 0's. It is magnetized by the seeker which has a magnetized head. The sub's magnet could render the seaker inoperable and mark the platter with irregular magnetic densities. It will damage hard drives. The power supply will be affected as well because of the magnetic relation between AC power sources. The sub will disrupt the AC power source adding line distortion to the AC/DC conversion that the power supply does.

That is true but I think he's referring to packing his computer near his subwoofer box. I believe there is a slight risk but very slight. Distance from the magnet and the subwoofer enclosure material should be enough to protect your computer.

If you have crt monitors/TVs, be careful about leaving the sub next to those for too long. if its only for a short time, they will likely degauss without problems when turned on. however, if it goes too long, you can get some permanent hotspots..

keep the monitors away from the sub... but dont worry too much about keeping the computer in the trunk with the sub.. unless you mount your subs with magnet out and your computer is rubbing on the magnet of the subwoofer.. i wouldnt worry much about putting the computer next to the sub. ive put my laptop and my external hard drives (inc. flash drives), psp and my ipod in my backpack (i accidentally forgot about having my ipod in there..lol) and i left it in my trunk. still bumped it hard with a cd i found lying in my glove box... and i have had no problems with any of the electronics
