Default Sub options for minimal space/budget, HELP!

Okay, so I just got my tC about a month ago, brand new. I added the Bazooka Sub option and was pretty disappointed. I want more bass in the car. I'm looking for a way to add a sub with more power without taking up any more space. I'd like to either use the bazooka box that came with the car, put it down in the "cubby hole", or any other place that will take up minimal trunk space, as I need my trunk to transport stuff to college.

I also don't want to spend a whole lot on the system. Preferably between $300 and $600.

I also need to know:

If I'll need to get a new head unit. I got the iPod connection option and really want to still be able to connect my iPod and use the steering audio controls. I don't really like the Scion head unit, but it fits the space and is already setup for the iPod and steering controls. I don't want to have to drop even more on a iPod connection system and a component to allow the steering controls.

I'm kinda new to audio modding and what-not. Thanks in advance.

Gotcha covered. First of all, YES you need to replace your head unit. See your factory head unit is probably only putting out 1V preamp output, my best friends head unit puts out 8V. WOW. The good news is, the best head unit you can get to work with your IPOD is Alpine. Look into the CDA-9852 or the CDA-9856. It comes with a high speed hook up for your IPOD, you run the cable into your glove box and just hook your IPOD up in there instead of in your armrest (yes you paid for that option for nothing, welcome to the club). The interface on the head unit is AWESOME. Works just like your stock. Next, you can buy an adapter that will allow you to use your steering wheel controls. Bad news: that adapter cannot plug directly into your alpine head unit unless you get the CDA-9857 ($400 MSRP). So you need an RF converter (sends a laser signal like a remote control to your DirectTV). Try theese things first and see if your Bazooka sounds better. It will prob. sound better to you for a while, but it will still be sub par. You're going to want to replace it with a better sub in a box with a big amp someday. If you don't want to go to all the trouble yourself, you could have someone install it for you,but getting into your dash to do it is soooo easy and a lot of fun.

I also have the iPod head unit and I knew I would be loading up a lot of cargo. Consider the Infinity Basslink...

It hits pretty hard for how small it is. It has double the power of the bazooka but sounds hits MORE than 2x as hard (I've heard the Bazooka when I was test driving). Unless you're looking to wake up the neighbors, this might work well for you.

I did 2 cross-country trips where I had every worldly possesion I would need for 6 months of military training. On the way back, I actually had MORE stuff. The sub took up very little space. Also, if you're really desperate for every square inch, it's easily removed.

what tripmaster said is totally correct however, if u really want to keep ur stock HU u can. all u need is a inline signal convertor, costs around 15 bucks and its rather easy to wire. or if u want it really easy u can buy a "sub plug" this plugs into the back of ur deck and the other end goes into the harness, and from the middle there are 2 rca jacks and a remote wire lead.

Oh yea, cost...

Infinity Basslink = about $200 on ebay (w/ shipping)
Wiring Kit = about $50

Line level converter = $10
OR
eBay Sub Plug (recommended, very easy) = $50

Wow, I really like that box. The only problem is the price.

I'm still wanting to see other examples of what I could do. I really like how the iPod is setup right now and it'd be a pain to have that all re-done. I may have to stay stock if I can't find a suitable option.

well take your time, i know this can be an overhwelming process. Just make sure you get what you like and dont settle on something just so you can have it sooner.

Yeah, what I'd really like to have is a DVD/NAVI in the dash with iPod compatibility and a sub either flush with the trunk floor or flush in the sides.

Anyone know of a DVD/NAVI w/ iPod comp.?

1v is adequate if you're not going for an SQ competition system. The incentive for higher voltage output is to raise the noise floor of the system (such that the amps require less gain). From what he's stated thus far, I don't feel there's any incentive for solastsummer to upgrade his HU.

That's quite a bit to spend on wiring a BassLink. Here's a nice kit (link) that's considerably less expensive.

nooo i don't want SQ competition worthy sound.

I just want something that thumps enough that I can really feel and hear it.
