Default Subwoofer and amp question

Ok so i have just installed my pioneer AVH-1400DVD. Its pretty bad ___. I plan to add some alpine type s speakers in the very near future. After that Ill need some subs. Ive never had a hatchback, always a trunk. My question is what type of box is best for a hatchback? Also I will be wanting to run a 5 channel amp. Any suggestions on which subs to get and what amp to buy? willing to spend 300 to 400 on subs and same on amp.

I have Infinity 611a amp for the sub and 475a amp for the front speakers. They are Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1
I used to think my sub are too weak. I have turn up the volume to hear the bass. The cause was I set the gain in my front speaker too high. Because i set the navigation volume to the minimum, the nag voice is still very loud.
I been wanting to lower the gain for a long time. just been too lazy.

i have a bass control **** for in the cubby.

Hey Cameron048, how do you like your Pioneer AVH-1400dvd? I really like the HU but I have a hard time finding tC owners with that the 1400dvd. I'm wanting to order it this weekend but the installation seems intimidating. Did you install your's yourself.

Does your radio door close with the new unit?

Have you gotten a subwoofer installed in there yet? If so, how's it sound.

I have 2 JL10w3 and have no complaints from them, but I believe 1 will do you just fine along with the xd 600/1 amp. If you want more boom you can go up to even the 12w3 or the w6 series stuff. Can't go wrong with JL though.

JL makes a few solid products, but you can get equal or better performance at a fraction of the cost with smaller companies. JL has to pay a chit ton of engineers to do R and D which is reflected in their obscenely high prices. Their low end stuff is garbage imo, but the higher end models, zr speakers, w6/w7, slash amps are all pretty good. Just not really cost effective product though, with fi, sundown, tc sounds etc out there...
