Not a problem, all you need is an amp or processor with an appropriate subsonic filter.

Ok guys...this is what I did....my alpine subs were the SWE-1041which handle 200 watts rms each.....my amp was putting out 150 rms to each sub.....hence the distortion when I would crank it up....so I bought 2 punch P110S4 which handle 150 rms each....the distortion is now gone when I crank it and they sound great and hit pretty hard....problem sloved.....thanks guys....and by the way....have 2 10 inch alpine SWE-1041 for sale....

Just sounds like the gains on your amp were not set right. I say this because the sub with the higher power handling should handle the 150 watts better, not worse. Sounds like the amp is clipping when you are cranking it and that it might not be as noticable with the other subs. Just my 2 cents

^^^ agreed.... having less wattage to your subs than the RMS rating on them isn't going to cause any distortion or damage as long as your sending a clean signal

All I know is this......someone told me that my alpine's were distorting because I was running a 300 watt rms amp to 2 subs that require 400 watt rms to have them run at their full potential......I now have the same 300 watt rms amp running 2 300 watt rms subs.....and it's now louder.....hits harder.....and the distortion is gone....

well that someone doesn't know what they're talking about.... say you have 400 watts running into those 2 200watt subs with a sine wave tone that's allowing your amp to put out the full 400 watts.... when you turn the volume down on the head unit, the wattage that the amp is putting out starts dropping causing a lower volume...

less wattage = less volume
less wattage doesn't = distortion

Your new subs are louder because they are more are more efficient. When you are cranking it, are you listening to the sub from the hatch area to make sure the sub is not making strange or distorted noises. In the car it might sound fine, even though it might be having troubles. Not try to argue, just trying to help make sure your subs have a long natural life. Since distortion is the biggest killer of subs, not power.
