Default Subwoofer Help!

I just bought my Scion TC and i love it but i wann get some subs. But i have heard some diff things here and there and i need to clear some stuff up. I have the upgraded HU in my car with the ipod capability. Do i nead an RCA converter to hook up some subs and an amp or does the upraded HU come with RCA outputs on the back. Also what size sub do i need. I was going to put dual subs but i would like to have a trunk. Would a 10 " say kicker L7 hit hard enough or should i go with a 12" L7? Also i heard that with the RCA adapter you get not only bass out of your subs but you will also get some regular sound and that because of this it makes the cubs sound like crap. Is this true? Will the RCA converter allow regular sound not just bass go to the subs and will the subs sound thaty crappy? If so is there anyother way to do it so it sounds better? Please any advice and help would be much appreciated!!

10's, 12's.... how they sound really depends on box and install. I prefer 10's because they don't require much space (there's actually a user on here selling a nice custom fiberglassed stealthbox for hte side of the hatch that retains nearly all storage in teh back).

a LOC (line out convertor) is needed to hook onto the stock headunit

as for regular sound comming through, that's what the high pass and low pass filters are for on your amplifier they restrict frequencies going through the amplifer to a certain range.

ok so even with teh RCA converter it wont sound like crap because of regular sound coming in because the amp will filter some of it out. Also is an amp has a speaker level imput do u need an rca converter? or will using an rca converter allow it to sound any better?

i used an rca converter instead of using the speaker input. running a 10 inch alpine type r and its more than enough bass unless you want something that 3 cars down would feel. reason why i used the rca converter is because i am going to get an aftermarket head unit and it just made it easier to run all the wires at one time then take the car apart to replace them.
