Default Subwoofer Problem

I recently installed my new sounds in my new custom amp rack. All of the components I am using are the same except for the new subwoofer amp & enclosure. The headunit, front components, rear coaxials, subwoofer, and 2-channel amp for fronts are the same as before. Everything was working fine (except for a little engine whine, yup ground problem) until last night when I was playing my music pretty loud, the subwoofer shut off. All the other speakers are working just fine and my connections seem to all be okay. The amp is still on as the LED indicator still turns on. What could be my problem? sub broke? amp broke? thanks

physically check all rca's and speaker wires (at HU, amp, and sub)... make sure the LED indicator is the "on" and not the "protection" light...

Try redoing the ground if it was a bad connection to start with, also are all your speakers amped or just the sub? If its just the sub check the connections inside the box too.

the ground could be bad and not producing enough. or the wire on the sub got loose. pull the sub out and check it

I have a problem like brownbanana's. I just installed the sub from my (home) surround sound system (100w, 4 ohm) in my xB with a 240 watt, 4-channel amp that i got free from a friend. I spliced into my right rear speaker, connected a 2-channel high-to-low converter, and then ran the rca's into the amp from there.

To power the amp: power wire from battery to power-in, spliced into accessory wire in ignition harness for REM, and grounded to a bolt that connects the rear right speaker to the body.

My question is... whats the most likely reason that my sub keeps shutting off anytime i turn it up to high, but then comes back on if i restart the HU? It's driving me crazy cause I can't figure it out. I was wondering if it has to do with the fact that I spliced into the rear wire and maybe there isnt enough power? I doubt that I need some kind of capacitor cause the sub is such small wattage, but what do you guys think?

thats wierd...mine only does that when my amp overheats(its in a bad spot, it has 2 fans, but its kinda sealed....lasts about 1.5 hrs of hard hitting before it goes....and boy it gets hot)

i have had my subs bounce the wires loose inside the box....that was funny to see, soldered them to the sub, and plugged them bak in, no probs since then....check connections if amps good, thats all i know

taugenichts, I'd say you've probably got the sub wired wrong at the amp and you're driving the amp into protection mode.

tc876, subs don't just blow, there's always a reason. Do you have your gains set properly? what model amp and sub do you have? What impedance configuration is your subwoofer?
