Default Suede Armrest... Awesome and cheap mod.

So, I don't know if I'm the only one who has noticed that resting your arm on the armrest is like resting it on sandpaper. For whatever reason, that fabric doesn't work so well. So I decided to change it. And what a difference. Doesn't look so bad either. Night and day difference in the comfort. And the best part is it only costs about $10 and can be remove in about 5 minutes.

Step 1) Guess and buy the appropriate amount of fabric and padding... very thin padding. The fabric is whatever you chose, I happen to like the microsuede.

Step 2) Remove the two screws that hinge the upper lid to the console in place.

Step 3) Unscrew the four screws on the underside and remove the bottom of the lid.

Step 4) Stretch the padding and fabric over the top of the lid and underneith.

Step 5) Work out any folds or creases and try to work it into place.

Step 6) Replace the bottom part of the lid and the 4 screws and put everything back together.

Maybe this idea seems really lame to everyone but me. But the $10 it costs is well worth it. And it looks good. What do you all think???????????????? I put the poll for the hell of it cause I'm freakin' bored, man!

I just checked it out, and yeah. They do. Well, I thought it was original for a little while. Lol. But they sell theirs for $50. Now, it does look good. I think I like the $10 armrest a little better though since its $10. Pics in a few minutes.

thats from the hids. kinda ghetto. actually, not really. just the opposite. i didn't want to hook them up directly to the factory harness so i ran my own wires and used a relay. and that is the power wire from the relay to the passenger side hid. i know. still sounds really ghetto. but, over a few thousand miles, and still workin and no fried harness or switch. good enough for me.

LOL, when I first bought my car, I noticed I left chunks of skin in the fabric of the arm rest and my elbow hurt from the scratching. Now, I think my arm is just calloused over and it doesn't bother me at all. You did a really nice job though. Not my thing, but quality job man.

Not my choice of fabric, but at least you did it yourself. Why pay $50 or more for a “kit” when you can do it for a fraction of the cost and have a larger selection of fabric.

I would guess you'd get that fabric at a craft store or something along those lines.

I think it's a good idea. I'm going to redue my whole interior myself once it gets warm again (spring) and when I figure out how to properly take things apart. Now I know how to take the arm rest apart. Thanks! Hope your drive is more comfy.
