Default tC Speakers

I'm sure someone has done this already. I have the stock Pioneer head unit with Ipod adapter, XM and Bazooka sub. One place that factory OEM usually falls short is often in the door panel speakers. Any thoughts on some good front door panel and rear seat speaker replacements? Something I can swap out with minimal effort and by that I mean out with one in with the new without having to drill new holes, etc.

u can buy new waffles for the speakers but most likely u might still have to drill new holes in them. They're not perfect.

I bought some of eDs baffles for the front and they fit really well. I had to drill anyway because the place that did my previous install did a ____ty job. If you put it new speakers make sure to water proof your baffle and a foam baffle or something to surround the speaker. My old baffles got soaked and fell apart and my speakers are showing signs of rust. My new baffles also had a little water on them so I need to get the foam baffles.

I don't think it's the stock HU signal itself that makes the stock speakers sound bad, it's the HU's power. With the stock HU and a good quality converter going to a real amp, the stock speakers sound MUCH better than when powered by the HU. Just something to consider for those that want to retain the stock HU for whatever reasons.

Only problem, I purchased the iPod adpater and XM radio through the dealer, so those two add-ons are running through the OEM HU. Is there a replacement HU that would plug and plag with the iPod adapter and XM unit? Also allow you to continue to use the steering wheel controls?

There are certian head units that will allow you to use the controls but you have to buy an adaptor. I have an apline cda-9857 and it sounds great with the stock speakers. The adaptor runs around 40-60 bucks. And it also does take xm or sirus. I have not crossed from the stock HU with Sat through so you may need to buy an adaptor or somehting.

You can still keep your stock deck, yet improve sound quality greatly by using a separate amp with high-pass filter. Even with an aftermarket HU, the SQ can be improved by using an amp instead of the HU's power. So you might want to consider first getting an amp and powering the stock speakers, and at that point if you still feel the speaker quality is lacking, then upgrade the speakers.

How much do you want to spend? How much space do you have for it, where are you going to put it, how large can the amp be? In what ways do you feel the stock speakers "fall short" as you put it, what specifically are you hearing now that you don't like, or what do you feel is lacking compared to what you want to hear?

The first two questions will help in meeting your request for possible amp suggestions. The latter may assist in determining what it might ultimately take to acheive what you want, if such is possible with the minimal effort you've indicated as a priority.

very deep questions there lol but i do agree ya dont have to get anything too big most stock speakers only can handle bout 15 to 30 watts rms so you shouldnt have trouble gettin an inexpensive amp.....

When hooking an amp up to your stock speakers do you need to run cross overs or anything like that or can you basically run RCA's to the amp. and take the speakers and re route them to the amp?

are you using the stock deck or a different one?

i might try throwing 50 watts or so rms at my fronts and see how they do for the time being until i get new speakers.

tcguy. . i think the peak on the stock speakers is at 50w so be careful (rms is 20w.)

im looking that the specs according to the tC faq site...
does anyone know how the front speakers are wired? it says that the tweeter and the woofer are both 4 ohms EACH... would that mean they are actually running at 8ohms or even 2ohms depending on how they wired it?
