tC XM Skyfi install?
Anybody have any ideas on this? I was thinking about going OEM (costs too much) or installing an XM commander (can't find a good place for it), but I'd like to go with the Skyfi because of its portability and the aluminum look kinda matches the interior. I was thinking of maybe putting the swivel mount on the cell phone holder cover...anyone else have any ideas?
Thanks
Thanks
I installed the Delphi Skyfi into my tC and it looks pretty good. Only thing I would like to change is my mounting method. I'll try to post pics soon...
You're right, too... the Scion XM unit is waaaaay overpriced... and the Skyfi is pnp!
I used the TOY03-AUX direct input into the stock 6 disk headunit.
I spliced the power directly using a power adapter from myradiostore.com. Used the power going to the cig lighter. If you do this, just remember that the black wire is positive, and the black/white striped wire is ground... Blew my power adapter's fuse the first time by hooking it up backwards...
Also, when installing the antenna, it's very simple to run it over the top of the car through the sunroof molding, rather than taking out the seats and stuff like the Scion XM install manual says.
Then I ran all 3 cords through a small hole I drilled through the top of the little cubby hole below the HVAC controls. Mounted my Skyfi on the right hand side of the cubby. As I said, I'll try to post pics tonight if I have my camera charged. It's a decent looking install. I will probably add a VSM (vehicle specific mount) when it becomes available for the tC.

ps.... here are some links to the components I used for the install:
Skyfi with car adapter.
Pro-fit extension... softened and bent ~90 degrees with a heat gun.
6v power adapter.
Belkin RCA to 2.5mm cable

lyrictenor1,
Here are a couple of quick pics I took this afternoon. The lighting wasn't great, but you should get the idea. I've had to stick the holder for the Skyfi in place with 3M tape (for now... didn't want to commit to drilling holes yet).
Enjoy...

nice install man. Thanks for the ideas...I'm still thinking about what I want to do--I may use the vent clips and attach them to the vent nearest the driver side window and that way I can retain the clean design of the dash.
BTW, in order to plug in the AUX adapter I'm assuming you had to take the center console apart, right?

Thanks... I was going to use the vent clips, but settled on the location by the cubby. When I upgrade to the MyFi (next year some time) I may move it... that's partly why I used the 3M tape instead of screws!
Yup, you have to take off the center console in order to get the head unit out... which you need to do in order to connect the AUX adapter. It's very simple, though, and the only screws that needed removal were those that held in the HU.

I mounted my Roady 2 where the ashtray was in my xB. I pulled it out got a powerful magnet and a metal corner bracket from a hardware store. Mounted the xm mounting kit to the bracket and put the magnet in the space where the ashtray was with double sided tape. I smoke but not in my box so did not need the ashtray. Heres pix. still need to run the wiring through the hole where the ashtray was for a cleaner look.
