Is there a difference between these two subwoofers?
This might sound like the worlds dumbest question....
but is there a difference between the boston acoustics G512-4 subwoofer and the G512-4 and the Boston Acoustics G512-44??
Haha I'm looking at the 12" woofer if that makes any difference...

I prefer a dual coil sub as it gives you more ohm options to wire it to.......it is a great sub,my buddy had 2 in his speed 3 and it was painfull.....he has since knocked it down to one and is still painfull, the sub moves a lot of air
As that question had already been answered, you might also consider how the Boston compares with the JL you already have. In your other thread you didn't say what model it is (???), but it might not be worth spending more on this aspect of your system...unless all you're actually interested in is spending money on new replacement stuff.
Honesty, I have no clue what model it is. I got it from a friend who had it in his jeep when it got totaled. I'm actually going to a certified JL dealer today to see if they can tell me which model it is. I have a feeling that i'm going to have to take it out of the box to find out, which is a pain in the ___ because my buddy stripped all the screws. :@ But I definitely will be comparing the two before I make any final decisions!
I guess I'm just looking for a sub that is clean and that just doesn't pound my chest. I want to actually hear the words of the song that I'm listening too. haha. It's harder to find one too, because most of the reviews i read on crutchfield and whatnot all basically say that the sub "pounds" really hard.
So you know of any good ones? You seem to know a lot about stereo systems, so your input would be much appreciated.

^ The JL you already have just might be what you need. To get the sound you want (as you described), it'll be as much or more dependent on the enclosure and installation as it is for the sub itself. Take a given sub, and depending on the enclosure, amp, tuning and placement within the vehicle, it can be made to sound very "clean" or "pound", or an in-between compromise. Based on your description of the sound you're wanting, a simple sealed box is most likely to produce the best results, and many JL subs are known to produce good sound quality in an appropriate enclosure. Find out what model it is, then it should be fairly easy to determine what type & size of box would be optimal for SQ, and whether or not it's likely to meet your requirements. Even if it's just their low-end W0 series, you might be very pleased with the performance, and you'd only have to buy the right enclosure.
