TRD Quickshifter
Anyone know of any physical/ visible differences between the OEM Shifter Assy & the TRD Quickshifter? - I bought one on eBay, and I'll be damned if it doesn't look EXACTLY like the OEM Assy! (Except for the bushings & the ****...) Fill me & reassure me that I haven't fallen prey to another eBay scam!
I have it too; the pivot arm BELOW the ball joint is longer, which makes for the shorter throw. You also end up putting the shifter pedestal assembly on four spacers that are about 0.7 cm high, so the shifter assembly gets raised a little. I like the TRD shifter because it shortens the throw while keeping the shifter height near the same; I tried the TWM stage 2 in a friend's tC, and I found it too short (I'd have to either lean forward or fully extend my right arm to move the shifter into 1, 3, or 5).
get it from trdsparks.com for about $240, and then it comes a bit more appealing. The leather shift **** and having a simplified installation from having the lever pre-mounted in a cage make it worthwhile. Having the cage means all you have to do is unbolt and disconnect the old one, and then connect and bolt-in the new one. You don't have to struggle with getting that retaining clip off of your current cage to open up the socket joint, or having to get that saddle off of the bottom of your current shift lever, or with having to grease the pivot ball or bottom lever ball.
If you can find a tC owner who has the TWM stage 2 shifter, try shifting with it. It is less expensive, tightens the throw angle even more, and does drop the shifter height about 2 inches, but I personally didn't want any shifter height reduction. But with the TRD kit, you don't have to deal with trying to take the shift lever out of the cage, because your new shifter is already in a cage. It cuts the work time in half (you still have to deal with those shift cable lock collars that take about 3 to 4 hands to loosen enough to remove from the cage; be warned)

I got my shifter on eBay for ~$165 + shipping. It came with everything but instructions (simple install w/ a text walkthrough available elsewhere on this site.)
At first I was worried, because visually it's nearly identical to the OEM part (after inspection, I did noticed the longer lower section below the pivot ball...) and after installation, I can tell the throw is shorter (although not dramatically) I had a short shifter in my Miata, and it was SHORT with an even SHORTER throw...It took a while to get used to it, but I really liked it! I think I expected something more like that - so I may cut the shaft just to drop the height some. Otherwise, I'm pretty satisfied w/ the investment. I've seen it sell for ~$250, I think that's toward the higher end of what I'd be willing to pay, but it is a TRD part, so I trust the R&D...
Remember, there's always eBay (just watch out for the fakes!)
