Upgrading the stock speakers w including sub in the same box
so did anyone ever get the speaker set off of trd sparks for 400 something?
http://www.trdsparks.com/displaypart...5&parts_id=355
i know it was discussed but my dealer doesnt even know about it?
im just trying to figure out if its genuine toyota, which it supposodly is, but, theres 2 things that bother me..
1. 100 watts?
the stock stereo is 160 watts, right? whats the deal?
2. wheres the new tweeters?
also has anyone successfully replaced the bazooka sub with anything else?
i know i could throw any aftermarket sub in there, but how is the amplifier secured and connected? anybody swap the amp, how small is it, or how much room is there for a replacement amp? my searches came up empty, obviously.
to sum it up my goal is to keep the stock head unit, replace the speakers, prob add an external amp, and get a better performing subwoofer while keeping the box.
WHILE AT ALL TIMES using the exsisting wiring connections, more so plug and play with the sub connections. because the less stuff i have to take apart and wire my self, the better because its a pain in the poop shoot!
my overall goal is quality, not high power, hell the stock radio gets loud enough for me, just doesnt sound good. especially the tweeters, cuz i listen to rock mostly and the distorted guitar tracks make the tweeters crackle.
i appreciate all advice and suggestions, and really hope you all could help out with the diy! thanks!

The stock HU is 160MAX watts... it's lucky if it sends 20RMS watts to the speakers....
You can get much better sound with a 4 channel aftermarket amp and aftermarket speakers (components up front with matching coaxials in the rear)...
I think there have been a couple people here that have used the molded tC sub bos with a different sub and amp.... not sure how though.... definitely would have to seal up the port if you swapped the sub because the box is tuned for the bazooka sub...

so how about the toyota system? does anyone know if they replace the tweeters? also, do the front components have a crossover? anyone know? the thing is, with aftermarket amps you really need a new hu, which is out of the question.
^^ you don't have to have an aftermarket HU to add an amp... all you need is a Line Output Converter that'll tap into your speaker wires and give you RCA signal...
The stock components don't have any x-over boxes but they may be x/o'ed in the HU....

yea, good point about the hu crossover. hadnt thought of that.
and my days of splicing are over. lol. in my my new car i want to plug and play. i know im asking a lot.
and what where your opinions on the speaker/amp upgrade?
if the new amp is 100 watts, the only way it is a benefit is if it was 25x4 RMS, which is still only a 5 watt upgrade, but im sure its prob a better all around amp.

i x-over is in the tweeter? Why IDK? Anywho, your better off getting some other type of speakers for that amount? If you have some money to spend it will be well worth it.
Get some nice set of components for the front and if you want to get some coixals for the rear. But ive heard you dont need rears?
Putting an aftermarket sub in the bazooka box with whatever amp is in there will not push, hit, thump, pound or anything? It will probally not work period! Your best bet is to get a 4ch amp like i have and run your components and your sub to that! It will sound pretty good and thats what i have!
But i plan on selling it and going all JL Audio. I currently have All Alpine. They are a great company but want better.
this is what i have:
///Alpine 10" SWS-1042D Subwoofer in a Customized Ported Enclouser made by Alpine-USA.com
///Alpine MRP-F240 4/3/2 channel 360W max Amp
///Alpine SPS-170A Type-S Component 2-way speakers (front)
///Alpine SPS-171A Type-S Coaxial 2-way speakers (rear)
All speakers were customized with 3/4" wooden baffels for both front and rear!
Once you start messing with your audio your gonna want to do more. So i say if you have money to spend then do it right.
How much you willing to spend on this?

instead of spamming i wanted to ressurect this thread in attempts to see if no one still hasn't purchased the toyota kit.
i like this kit, with the amp under the seat and everything, but the fact that they don't replace the tweeters troubles me, can anyone comment on the quality of the stock speakers. the reason i dont want to splice into the HU is ive heard the speakers are designed to work with the "s.s.p." crap. let me know, i want this kit.

Most people find the biggest benifit from changing speakers.... allthough, I wouldn't pay the $$ for the upgraded kit from toyota (only in some areas).... the stock speakers are good for what they are.... but still not up to par with aftermarket...
I mean swap the fronts with components and the rears for equivalent coaxial.... 265 isn't too bad for that kit as long as you're not looking to upgrade with aftermarket HU and sub/amp or anything like that.... If you just want a little more than stock, this would probably be a decent choice... The stock tweeters do pretty well but with this kit, I don't know if you keep them or just not have a tweeter at all...
^^^ you can buy it if you want.. that is up to you.. i wouldn't buy without learning more about it... like what kind of surround is around the woofer, what the cone is made of, what kind of amp it is, like who made it, if the amp is 100 max or rms, are the speakers 2 way or just a woofer (they look 2 way), etc etc.
im going to call him, ^^^^^^ good point about taking the tweeter out of the equation. they do look like coaxials, ill call today, ive tried before but i forgot about them being in a different timezone, ill post his response. really, im wondering if this is even specific to the tc?
i just got off the phone with josh from trd sparks, and he said he doesnt like them and to be honest hasnt sold any, he had heard them and said the quality was really low and so it looks like i wont be doing this.
