Video game controller type shift knob
its not completely useless.
back when i was on the Caddy forums there was a guy there who had a joystick as his shift ****, however it was also fully functional because he had a rediculous carputer setup.

you have to make your own, the joystick shiftknob is actually the controller to the Arcade machine of Top Gun or ace combat, they are a joystick of solid metal and had a fitting welded to the bottom and put on the vehicle, if you use a joystick for a computer, its made of plastic and will not last, so just to give you a heads up!
When I had my RX7 a few years back, one of the third Gen Owners created that, that picture is not the one but i helped im with it, we got lucky and found the arcade machine on ebay and managed to have the seller part it out and sell the shifter, he got more money from the shifter then selling the whole machine entirely!
