Default WeDriveScion's CarPC Thread.... To Follow Along as I go...

For all you technical folk, I'm in process of developing a good carpc setup for my tc. I already have the front end up and running and will develope a skin once I get my whole hardware package set up...

The Specs are going to be as follows -

7" Lilliput VGA Touch Screen
VIA MII12000 Motherboard
100 Gig 2.5 Inch Drive
Custom Case
OPUS Smart 12V Powersupply
CDRW/DVD Rom
XM Direct
Verizon PCMCIA EVDO Card
OBDII Interface
Possible BT Phone Capability
GPS

The Front End looks like it's going to be Mobile Impact, with a Scion Themed Skin, to match my color scheme as well... Here's some screenshots of the main screens (There is much more)

I've got it running on a Dell Laptop currently and am working on my troubleshooting phase, before I mount the screen in the tC... so stay tuned... Pictures and Videos are sure to come... Just waiting on ordering all the equipment... I'll do my best to help out others interested.... it's a bit of a learning curve, but once it's up... it's sooo beautiful

Well...

Got the Front End up and running bug free....

Locally, there are no touch-screens available... so I have to order my Xenarc from online...

XM works great through the PC and the interface is wonderful and powerful.

I'm going to start compressing my DVD's down to smaller files... using a Pocket PC solution... it takes a full DVD movie and makes it under a gig, while still getting good resolution on a 7 inch screen.

Bit By Bit...

I was going to go with an OPUS DC/DC, but might go with another manufacturer of DC/DC, as OPUS is a little too big for my solution... My PC is SMALL....

looking good, I recently completed mine 2 weeks ago and its all rine fine and dandy (except i can't figure out the bass since the onboard sound card doesn't have those settings and I have already set my amp to full bass) and I'm just waiting for some usb cables to run up to the monitor to make its touch feature work.

I'm running my audio through my pioneer deck... which is hidden, and the faceplate is mounted in the first bin under the middle armrest... That way... I still have the ability to tweak sound-settings as needed and can run good FM if I ever need to... since there are no good quality FM setups for PC's currently.

Going straight to an AMP is a tough install for a smaller pc, as most of them don't have very easily adjusted eq settings...

UPDATE.

Just got my OBDII cable and software setup....

It's a bit dissapointing, as it reads somewhat slow when you try to read all the data at once... but it can display trouble codes and reset the CEL!

Here's some pictures of the cable and screenshots...

Still pretty cool IMHO....

Try this one, it's $200 but it runs USB and seems to do just about anything.

http://www.autotap.com/autotap_for_windows.html

Also have you guys thought about using the External USB SoundBlaster to give you audiophiles a bit more options for modifying your sound settings, like a having a FULL EQ.

I have an extigy external usb... but I like running through my pioneer deck a little more.. the extigy was never really built for that use and isn't too looks friendly...

I'll look into autotap... see how fast it runs...

The whole pc is going to be in the trunk....

it's no more than 21(W)x25(L)x5.6(H)cm

I may go custom case like KMCNiece as well...

This will now be delayed a little bit... as recent attention needs to go toward my N2O Setup....

It's still coming though....
