Hey all,

ive noticed on the freeway , while driving at 80 mph, there is a whistling/ rattling noise coming from the dash area. im not really sure where the noise is coming from exactly. But yeah, i took it into longo toyota like 2-3 times already because of the damn noise i hear. They cant seem to replicate this problem because 80 mph is not legal so they cant really test it. The technician tried to replicate it cause i told him to just push it and go 80mph. He did but the noise didnt happen again .

also i noticed this noise only comes when im driving at 80mph in hot temperatures. Around 80-90 degrees.

So im pretty much screwed, i dont know what the problem is and the techs wont find out what the problem is because of the speed limit. Anyone have an idea what the noise is and where its coming from?

 

You got the TRD s/c? When I broke the bracket it made a funny rattling noise at about 3200-3500 rpm. Only did it while cruising at a constant speed. Sounded like it was coming from under the dash near the steering column and peddles. After several trips to one dealer and them not hearing it I tried another dealer. This one wouldnt even look for the noise unless I paid $50. Long story short I cracked the radiator again (both times under warranty) and was filling it so I could go in to the dealer. Set the cap on top of the engine near the oil cap and ended up dropping it down between the S/C shaft and the pulley side mount. While getting it out I noticed the cracked bracket (also fixed under warranty).

 

nope. i dont have the TRD s/c. my car is completely stock! i just tinted my windows and recently installed HIDS. but the f man, this noise has nothing to do with these slight "modifications"

 

Hopefully you find a dealer that is more willing to look than the 2 I tried were.
