Just buy a headunit with nav save yourself the trouble... unless you plan to take this from car to car.

tomtom or garmin... either one is good.

I prefer the tomtom... even my granny can operate it...

but if you have only one car, then get an in-dash unit-> I know that best buy sells the pioneer avic d3 for $600.

tomtom one is great for turn on and go...

dont waste extra $$$ on the tomtom one wide screen... its just a bigger screen- not a better performer.

I used to have the tomtom 910 (with a 20gb hard drive, mp3 player, remote, yada yada yada) but that was 499.99.

i used to work for radioshack and used the tomtom one- its great.

one thing i do wanna tell u is make sure u check radioshack b4 u buy from walmart... radioshack has some mind-blowing sales every 2 weeks.

You might draw a little more attention if you had a stand alone gps. Its easier to smash and grab, if someone scouts your car and they see a GPS stand/mount then they will know for sure.

If you want to go cheap I suggest a Pharos 150. On sale they go for $100 from Amazon.com and can be hacked to run TomTom software that you can find on bittorrent. Hardware-wise it has the same GPS chipset as Garmin & the other top makers. Even says the street names. Only bad thing is the software that comes with it does not have that many POIs (only two million vs Garmin's 12mil). Maps are from Navteq, which is the same as Garmin's provider.
