Default What do you guys think about this?

Here's what I'm thinkin about doing. I wanna build my own stealth box, throw in a shallow mount, and run a mono amp. My previous system was a Kenwood, which i loved, so I'm kinda biased towards them haha. Heres what I'm lookin at. What do you guys think?

I dont buy subs unless there dual voice-coil. Sound is just so much better / clearer / more precise.....

As for the amp.... its alright. Not great, but ok. It a pretty good buy though... $200 is pretty cheap, plus free shipping.

Id go for the amp, but look for a DVC sub.

So maybe either

or
http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...P3SD412&tp=111
you think?
I mean I'm not lookin to make the car next to me shake. I'm just lookin for a little extra bass in a stealth box

^^ elaborate. I've always respected your oppinion. What do you think of this set up trials? single 12 in a 1.0-1.5 cu/ft sealed box under the carpet in the trunk, around 300-400 watts RMS @ 4 ohms. I'm not looking for something incredibly intense but something... well nice if you will. What would you recommend?

^^^ I think he means that DVCs have nothing to do with the sound, and everything to do with wiring options.

A DVC sub and a SVC sub of the same make/model will have the same power rating, etc. The difference is you can wire the DVC sub to present less resistance to your amp. Usually this results in more power to the sub.

Well there are a lot of different options for shallow mounts.

People might wanna argue on this one, however, the JLAudio TW5 (0.6 and 0.8 cuft sealed), I've been reading a lot of good press on it. It has one of the shallowest mounts 2.5"! Obviously the price isn't that friendly....

Stereo Integrity has the new BM shallow (0.5cuft sealed) that is suppose to come out soon which has the XBL^2 technology on it. Price should be pretty competitive when released. The performance on it should rival the TW5. Price when released should be about $149.

REaudio has the new SlimLine series out which is 3" deep for the 10" 0.5cuft sealed and the 12" 0.74cuft sealed. Price, I am not sure, you would have to contact a dealer. I haven't read much about it so I can't comment on performance.

I can't speak for the main stream stuff right now....!

I installed a pair of Pioneer Premier shallow 10" subs in a stealth box a few weeks ago.
They sound incredible - especially for being totally stealth.
I imagine the 12" version would sound even better.

Right now I'm leaning towards the Alpine with the Kenwood sub.

Right now I'm leaning towards the Alpine with the Kenwood sub. Im curious. How does a 2 ohm differ from a 4 ohm? i know the 2 ohm pushes out more power because of a lower resistance but does it effect sound quality? like is the 4 ohm gonna hit harder then the 2 ohm?

The only difference you will see is if your amp pushes more power at a lower impedance (ohm).

For example: If your amp does 200watts at 4ohms, and 300w at 2ohms, the sub will hit harder if you wire it up to present 2ohms to the amp. However, if your amp can't handle 2ohms and you wire the sub up for 2ohms, your amp will likely over-heat and shutoff from time to time.

Wait. So the more wattage the harder the sub will hit regardless of resistance? I'm not following. If that was the case then whats the point of having like. say a 4 ohm sub.

With lower impedance the higher the damping factor goes also.

With lower impedance the distortion is also greater (amp produces more distortion with increasing resistance), but at frequencies under 80Hz you're not likely to notice the difference.

So you can have different sub/amp combinations. Not all amps can handle anything below 4 or 2 ohms. So depending on your setup, you may need a 4 ohm load to be presented to your amp.

I don't know anything about the sound quality or whatever, I'm just speaking from a purely electrical point of view.

So I'm about to order.
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KAC8...4D.html?tp=115
and
http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...SWS1243&tp=111
so long as it works with the box I'm gonna build, about to design it and calculate everything out after class.

sound good

^^^ I dont know about the box, but the specs seem ok. If you wire the sub at 2-ohms, that amp will push 500watts RMS.

You're a little over-powered (which is a good thing), just keep that in mind if you plan on cranking it at full volume for hours on end.

^^ Oh no don't worry. I don't plan on blowing the sub haha. I won't have the amp all the way up.

As for the box I'm gonna try and make between a 1.0 and a 1.5 cu/ft sealed. Idk if I'll be able to make quite 1.5 under there but we'll see.

^^^ Just make it sealed (You're already over powered anyways), and it should sound pretty clean.

Oh yeah its gonna be sealed. no way could I fit a ported box next to the spare haha. Oh. and how big of an inline fuse should I get?
