one word of suggestion...dont go around talking about you having a 2500watt sub. Lets not talk about max "rated" power, even if you tried giving it 2500watts it will last for, ummmm, lets say 3.5 seconds. You need an amp that will put out 800watts RMS (which is what the sub can supposedly handle). Get something along those terms and call it a day.

haha ppl on SL get a weird attitude when it comes to audio stuff, everyone knows more than the next person of course LOL

anywayys just look at the RMS power rateing for your sub, and then you can pick the amp that best suits that sub (also by looking at the amps rms watt rating) just dont go by max power rating because that basically means nothing lol

Ok lets go back to your original statement you need an amp for your 2500watt sub, well go and get an Orion 5000D it will give you 2500watts@1ohms. Or how about a Sundown 3000D - 3000watts@1ohms. Or an RFT20001BD it will give you roughly 2300watts@1ohm. Or an Audioque AQ2200 - 2200watts@1ohm. All rated at RMS power provided given the correct current needed.

You see where I am going with this, that's why max power shouldn't be stated at all.

300-600w amp should suffice.
when it says 2500 max rms thats just for marketing, like how our gauges go up to like 160 even though we cant reach that.
i couldnt find the rms of that sub you said but if you still have the box check what the rms is. and get an amp that can push a little bit over that amount.
if this is the sub your talking about

I'm assuming you're referring to this one:

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...S-W2501D2%7CD4

Is it a dual 2 Ohm or 4 ohm coil, that will affect what amp you get (the last two digits of the model number will be D2 or D4)? Most amplifiers have a different power rating at 4 ohms, 2 ohm and 1 ohm. JL Audio is the exception, their slash series amps have a regulator that provides the same output for 1.5 - 4 Ohms.

The D2 can be wired to 1 or 4 Ohms. the D4 can be wired to 2 or 8 ohms. You want an amp that has 800W RMS at whichever ohm impedance you're putting your subwoofer at. Also, you're going to want a monoblock (1 channel) amplifier since you only have one sub. Don't wire up each coil to a different channel. if you have a two channel amp, make sure the documentation says it can be "bridged" for a single sub. they usually do this by using the (+) of channel 1 and the (-) of channel 2, and may have a switch to select the number of subs.

It doesn't look like Pioneer makes an 800W RMS amp. If you're looking to stay with Pioneer, go with the PRS-D1200M at 2 ohms (you'll need the D4 sub for this). it has 600 W RMS, may be a little underpowered but should work for most applications. otherwise, you'll need the PRS-D1200SPL, it has 1000W at 2 Ohms, and will also go to 1 Ohm at 1200 W.

If you want other brands, I'd suggest JL Audio. They're overpriced on Crutchfield so hopefully you can find one cheaper online or from a local seller. The HD750/1 would be almost perfect at 750W from 1.5 to 4 Ohms, or the 1000/1v2 with the gain turned down a bit. I'm sure other people will chime in with their favorite brand, and there are other smaller companies that may have better or cheaper amps. just get something that has 800W RMS at the ohms your sub will be at and you should be good.

What's the coil impedance, dual 2 Ohm or dual 4 Ohm?

That's going to cut your choices back significantly. You'll need to find an amp that is 1 ohm stable, and most lower end amps won't go that low. Is there a particular brand or price range you're looking for?
