Default wire extension...

what i mean is... i have some fosgate wires that will run to a future amp (don't know which amp to purchase yet) however, i want to hide the amp in the little area next to the spare tire where the tools are located. in order to do this i need my wires to be about a foot and a half longer does anyone know if there is a way to purchase a wire then bind the two together to kinda "extend" the wire?

Ummm you could strip the wires and use caps to attach them together

Those connector things

The best thing to do is just to get a longer one, or if you could get some off a friend, soldering like already said is also the next best thing.

if its not long enough, first choice would be to just buy a new wire. however, as mike said, getting a distro would help alot, and allow you to have multiple amps if you so decided to upgrade later

get some extra wire of the same gauge, and try to twist it together, then electrical tape it..lol... is that even safe?

yup get a distribution block OR you could get a capacitor and have it in line with your power wire... but if you do that the cap cannot be more than 12 inches away from the amp. but whatever you do remember that the wire you are using will be live and it does get nasty if it touch bare metal. At least for a few seconds before the fuse blows.

thanx for all the feedback, im gunna talk to a friend and see if he can solder it, but i guess next best option is get another wire, which sux cuz that means i'll have to run it through the car again and that's what i wanted to avoid

what you can do, would be to tape the longer wire to the one thats already there to the shorter one, then pull on the shorter one. thats what i did when i had to rerun my RCAs

I wouldn't even CONSIDER soldering.... First best thing would be to get a new run of wire that is longer and re-run it... it's not that difficult... second best thing would be to get a distribution block and another short run of wire to complete the run...

I would not recommend soldering. You would have to expose lots of wire to have a secure connection and there would be lots of sharp wires that could poke through the electrical tape and short out. I would either rerun or get a distribution block and mount it in a safe place. It is not that hard to rerun. Just attach the new wire to the end of the old wire and work it though the car.

Dude...be safe and do it right. Get a fused distribution block from Scosche @ Walmart for ~$7.

No, twisting wires for 18 AWG is fine, but once you get past say 10 gauge, its no longer safe. It'd say even 14 gauge shoudn't be twisted, crimp connectors yes....twisted no.
