Default XM Radio Question.

So I got the OEM receiver and I have two questions - included with it (this came used) was a grounding wire... it wasn't attached to anything. Anyone have any clue what it's for? I hooked up the radio and it works fine, but just want to figure out what that wire's for.

Secondly, I put the antenna under the dash (right behind the steering wheel) right next to my navigation antenna... i get very spotty reception. Does anyone have any recommendations where to put the antenna? I don't want it outside the car, I think they're ugly. I know the only stipulation is it can't be behind metal, and the nav one works there just fine. WHere can I stick it to get better reception. FYI by spotty i mean i'm in a wide open area and it cuts out.

Okay, the extra grounding wire, check out the wiring diagram and see if it should be grounded. Could take care of both problems.

As for the "spotty reception" you want the antenna to have a clear Line of Sight with the antenna. So under your dash is not exactly the best place to put it. You want it up high and away.

trdsparks has the instructions on their site. The antenna goes on top of the dash on a ground-plate inside the car. The grouond wire connects to a bolt under the dash, behind the glovebox.

It really depends on your location. Some people have put the antenna under the dash with no problems. I tried it and my reception was crap. I ended up putting it on the outside next to the regular antenna and I have no reception problems whatsoever. It doesn't look that bad...

I did that and it scratched the ____ out of the paint. Moved it to the roof. It can be attached with double stick tape. Some other people on SL also have it on the roof.

That's how I have mine on there so it doesn't scratch up the paint.

Ill have to try that because mine is scratched pretty bad. But, you do get better reception with it on the outside.
