The last six digits of the VIN are sequential.

For TSBs that involve a parts change:

If your last six are lower that those in a TSB, your vehicle is older and has the older parts.

If your last six are higher than a number in a TSB, your vehicle is newer and has the newer parts already in place.

HTH!

I was wondering why my 07 was rattle free. . . and all this time, I just thought you 05-06 owners were just whining about nothing. At least there is a TSB now.

^ I know this guy is a hater, so I don't really want to agree with anything he says. But unfortunately, he is right on this one. I love my tC and all, but the hatch/roof noises drive me crazy. It comes from the upper back area of the car. I am actually having a dry spell now, but I know it will come back. Some days it is there, and some days there is no noise. Weird.

I talked to Ken at trdsparks and he said from what he could tell the cushion is the same. There is no revision in how it looks. Is everyone that had the new cushion put on sure that it looks different than the old one? Can we get side by side pics?
Thanks

I took my car in for the rattling sound and they installed the foam tape. Unfortunately it was still rattling. The tech and service writer wanted to replace my headliner but later found a TSB that matched the problem my vehicle was having...as well as others on this site. Needless to say my roof and headliner have to be removed completely to properly spot weld the structure together. looks like my car is going to be M.I.A. in the body shop for a couple days.

I thought the guys were playing a joke on me since I work there....but it turns out they have had to do this to quite a few of the 05's, 06's, and even 07's.

The dealer adjusted the striker on my tc several months ago, and it seemed to fix the loudest rattle for the hatch (the lock vibrating against striker).

However, rattles seem to be getting worse again, but I don't think its the lock & striker issue. I took off the three interior garnishes (that go on the Left, Right, and Top of the back door glass).

And guess what? Majority of rattles went away...and I noticed where the garnishes had vibrated against the glass and rubbed off portions of the ceramic coating (black film) on the glass.

By the way, the dealer installed the spoiler on my car before I bought it...they broke several claws on the garnishes and even left off some of the clips when they reattached them. I thought about buying new garnishes...but a dealer priced them to me at $63 each...damn!!! Maybe have to try a pull & save junk yard...lol.

Anyway, it might be worth taking the garnishes off for some of you to see if those are the cause of the rattles. Now I just have to find good foam tape to remedy mine.

I put some velcro (the 'puffier'[?] side of velcro) on the metal strikers near the hatch. 1 1/2 weeks later, I have no more rattles in the back! Now I have a rattle near my sunroof. Thanks for the advice of using foam (velcro in my case) on the strikers!

I have noticed that a lot of people have gone to the dealerships and they don't know. Well if you have not told them about the TSB, then tell them. Most of the time Service Advisors get so many and have so much to do, they do not think of every TSB out there, so if there is a TSB that you know of, remind them when you go in to get your car checked out. This is what my BF who is a Service Advisor told me.... just thought I would help a bit

Hey just so you all know, there is a new TSB NV009-07 called Body Roof Tick/ Rattle Noise-

it says "Some customers may complain of a tick/rattle noise from the hinge area of the rear hatch or back door when driving on uneven or bumpy road surfaces."

Applicable on 2005-2007 produced before the production change effective VIN of JTKDE177770199482

I think this might be the one that FLEA Posted: 9/6/07 9:56PM is talking about because it does mention spot welding between the back door opening frame and back door hinge bracket. it also mentions adding 4 pads to the sliding roof housing in the back door opening frame in 4 locations

thought I'd share

Default Lower Windshield Knocking, Rattling, or Ticking Noise at Low

Has anyone experienced a ticking or knocking noise from the two lower corners of the windshield on their 2007 Scion TC?

I purchased my Scion in November of 2006. When the temperature gets less than 30 degrees, the ticking or knocking noise is present when going over bumps creating vibration. It sounds like a metal on metal knocking noise and it is very annoying. I can hear it with my radio turned up. There is a service bulletin on the two upper pins of the windshield. I had this done last year and it didn't fix the problem. Last winter, my car was in service 4 times and the problem was not resolved. It started to get warm outside and the problem went away. The service department told me to wait till next winter so they had more experience with this issue and I was not a test dummy.

Here we are December 2007 and the noise is back. Two days ago, I took my car to a different Toyota service location and received my car yesterday. They assured me the problem was fixed. While driving to work with the temperature at 26 degrees, the noise was present and worse than ever. I shouldn't have to put up with this noise 4 months every year. This is a new car. Can anyone give me any recommendations on what to do? Your response is appreciated.

Default Lower Windshield Knocking, Rattling, or Ticking Noise at Low

Sorry about the multiple posts. The rattling or nocking noise is coming from the two lower corners of my front windshield.

Here is the TSB I mentioned in a post before and this didn't resolve my problem.

Thanks again
