Default 07 or 08?

Been thinking about getting a tC for a while now, wanted to know if I should wait for the 08' or buy the more affordable 07. Any specials or anything that you guys have heard about for the 07's? Also, anyone interested in my Audi? The dealership won't give me anything for it.

I like the 07 better IMO. But the 08 does have standard iPod connectivity and standard side airbags, which you have to pay for, of course the price kinda balances out. I think the 08 does come out to be cheaper in the end. But the tail-lights are the most disgusting thing i have ever thing. The headlights aren't bad, but i like the 07's. The interior does have more aluminum, and a two-tone silver or something on the front dash. Basically it comes down to personal opinion.

If I were you I'd go see an 08 in person before you decide. The headlights/tailights and new grilles are pretty big differences for a car that hasn't changed much since it's inception, IMO. I'd rather have the 07 styling though.

I'm not too sure about the tail lights either. Seems like i'd have to see them in person before making a real decision. But what I don't understand is, if the 08 is such a bargain for the extra features etc. then what is my incentive to buy an 07? The better tail lights? There's gotta be some type of special or promotion to get those off of the lot. Let me know if you guys hear anything please. Thanks for the replies!

08 and I'll explain why.

There is a slight increased cost over a current 07, but you gain this.

Projector headlights, Ipod as standard, side curtain airbags, a 6" subwoofer which sounds great if you're not into SERIOUS thump, slightly different interior accents, brighter LED guages, and most importantly. They're brand new, haven't been sitting on a lot for 6 months and have a years worth of value more than an 07.

The two hates of the 08's are the new grill and the new tail lights.

I just picked up a like-new set of 07 tails for 60$ delivered. I could get a set of 07 grills for 65$ delivered if I so chose to.

125$ of retro-mods, vs that whole list of new additions.

Your call, but I made the choice to go 08, and I don't regret it

Well the standard side airbags would be a nice thing if you're looking for safety. Though it's really just going from a 4 star rating to a 5 star rating. So IMO, you're going from "pretty safe" to "really safe." Of course it all depends on the circumstances.

And you could always smoke the tails of the 08 or something. Make them look a little better. Or maybe get some TYC tails instead (sorry, not a fan of the Anzos at all).

Depends on what color you want. If you are getting a Flint Mica go for the 08. The headlights and tails looks GREAT with it. It's like they were designed for the FM color. If you are gong with a diff color it's personal preference.

I agree with the above reasons. The most important ones to me would be side-curtain airbags and the resale value of having an 08 vs 07. the subwoofer and the look of the grill/headlights/taillights all dont mean a damn thing to me. i dont like the look of the '08 grill/headlights/taillights as much as an '07 but it would not be a deal breaker.

I guess if looks are not important to you and your looking for the best way to spend your money, which is primarly the more important thing, get an 08, the small things that may not be your style are easy to replace anyway so there is no reason not to get an 08.

Go for what you think looks best. It seems that the first person that saw the 08's grill and lights decided they didn't like them, and the rest of this forum followed them. This all despite the fact that mods to these new styles are very easy and reasonably cheap. Also, the price increase from 07 to 08 is less than the costs of buying the new features for an 07 and installing them. Another good thing about the airbags is most insurance companies will give you a better rate with them. So, for those of you constantly whining about the grill and lights, go find something else to do. You're giving the car a bad rep, and it doesn't even deserve one.

Well said. Can't say enough how disappointing it was showing pics of a car I just bought to have half a thread nag about nothing but the grill and tail lights, when they're the most easily replaced pieces on the entire car.

Theyre just bashing which made me think twice about how accomodating some people here can be how I wish there is a healthier tc forum somewhere.

Anyway back to the topic the 2008 is cheaper in the long run coz you have the curtain airbags standard which right there and then decreases your insurance coz of the added safety. for like what how many hundred more. you have a standard sub. and all other stuff. so I'll go for the 2008 thats coz I have one

I like the '08 better, and feel it's worth the increased price (compared to getting an '07 after the '08 is available), but maybe that's just me.

Either way, you're getting one of the best new car values (price/perf/practicality/looks) available today.

i just purchased an 07 FM tC. IMO i like that gen better.
here's what i like about the 07: tails (i like tailights to be as red as they come. and not too much colors on them
here's what i like about the 08: the premium audio looks better, and the headlights look a lil better too. imagime putting HID on them???

they're not much of a difference. oh yeah, the 07 has better gas mileage too.

so i figured ill just buy the 08 headlights in the future and swap out with the ones i have.

BTW FYI: if u wanna save a lil, go for the 07. i was able to haggle the price. the dealer took the dealer fee out. so what they did was just minus the dealer fee from the MSRP of the car. no "haggle price"???

07 doesn't have better gas mileage. The way the EPA is testing them is different. Just like how they have new HP rating. So the 07 has the same gas mileage as the 08s but the 08 has more real world figure taken into account.

well said. a lot of people on here have stock items such as grills and taillights lying around for sale. if the tails and grille are the only things you don't like about the '08's, that could be a good solution for you.

Being new to Scions in general, I didn't have much of an opinion about the big grille debate, except that the new ones seemed a lot more like my M4 (rifle) venting than the standard fence-like grilles. But to reinforce tc-guy, change it if you don't like it.
There's considerable benefit to buying the 08 (improved safety-features == resale), and potentially other undocumented fixes.
But in the end, I completely agree with what was said before: look at them side-by-side and decide for yourself. If your dealer isn't willing to pull an 08 up alongside an 07 for you to kick some tires, then find a more friendly dealer.
But to defend my 08 : it's a great vehicle, pricewise, stylewise, and performancewise.
