I didn't think it would, but while I was washing the car, the soapy water froze and made a sheet of crappy looking white, soapy ice. It looks like hell. I have to be in a meeting early tomorrow morning, and I want the car to look good...was thinking of stopping at a no-touch car wash...are these safe?

 

HAHAHAHAHAHA, sorry that's just funny. I can just imagine my reaction to that happening. Man i'm glad I moved from the midwest. Yeah those touchless ones are safe. I take mine through them all the time. As long as only water hits it it's good to go.

 

they aren't very good for your paint. it'd hook up a hose to your sink, and turn on the warm water and wash it off that way

 

be carefull at thouse one touch car washes...my rims were stratched from the steel track you have to drive into....big mistake!!!..cost me a new wheel...

 

I feel you Dog. It has been really cold here where I live too. Today was a freezing 47 for the low and a chilly74 for the high. It was so cold that I had to put on my long shorts.

I have no problems with taking my car through the touchless carwash, but I think I might wait til the temperature gets at least 20 or 25. Even with the blow dry, there is some water left in the doors and on the back...

 

Guess I'll try one of those no-touch washes tomorrow...it's either that or show up lookin' like a soap popsicle. I'll keep an eye out while I'm pullin' in, though, thanks, BLKScion. Thanks for the input, all =) I've read some horror forums out there about peeps gettin' peeled paint from car washes, but I didn't think they were talkin' about the no-touch washes...

 

I live in an upstairs apartment...the hose would drag across the furniture, etc in the family room...don't think the mrs will go for that :O

 

why can't you just use a hand held wand and wash it yourself? those car washes usually have HOT water and it should remove all the soap without going into the automatic wash.. i live in michigan, yeah I've seen the soap freeze before.. just takes more water to get it off..

it's hilarious to see a car-soap popsicle.. hahhah.. i've done it before!!

the one thing I would do after you wash it (with the hand held wand in the u-wash car wash).. take a couple towels with you and dry the water around the door and the door opening.. otherwise you're looking at a frozen shut door (passenger and driver.. even hatch).. other thing I do is drive around after washing the car when it's that cold.. why? the car is warm inside, keeping things from completely freezing.. also the movement of the car along with wind keeps ice from forming on important parts, like suspension! and not to mention getting that car moving after the water sits on the wheels.. otherwise unbalanced wheels due to ice..

 

i washed my car last friday at cool 74 degrees. it pays to live in socal during winters :8

the water in the door in embarrassing. Its been 2 days since it rained and if i push my window down then up.. it will come up wet. geez. how tight is it in there? that sucks.

 

having it freeze isnt nearly as bad as having it dry on you when its really really hot out, happened on my black eclipse and the saop like baked into the paint! But as others have mentioned, those do-it-yourself power washers at the car washes are your best bet...just dont use the dirty brush on your nice paint, pring your own sponge!

 

I gave my new tC its first carwash yesterday at a touch free car wash. And the car was no cleaner afterwards then if I had simply left the car out in the rain. All the dirty spots were still on the hood. Such a waste of my $8. There was NO difference. Next time ill take the risk and just go through a carwash that touches.

IF u MUST use a car wash that touches, find the newest one in the city.

It should have the "floppy rag strips" for lack of a better term.
If you use one with bristles they will scrape your paint.

Ive seen car finishes destroyed by washes that touch the finish.

Cliffnotes: Only use an auto wash sparingly ( once a year ), and make damn sure its not more than 3 years old.
