14.5 gallons is more than enough. I made it to the 500 mile mark after I got tuned @ PTuning, with a few pulls out of the toll booths, on 18s, my A/C was never turned off in my tC, and I had a passenger.
I don't feel like quoting multiple people, but to respond to a few:
I can't cruise at 70+mph with this car and attain the same mileage as fellow tC owners that have an auto transmission. There is a huge difference in the final drive ratio gearing. 75mph in the tC and the engine is screaming at 3500rpm. Also, if you do some research you'll find that speeds in excess of 50mph start to cripple your gas mileage potential because of wind & rolling resistance, also engine speeds, etc. And for reference, I do have 18's on my car.
I just returned from a trip to Philadelphia PA, from Syracuse NY yesterday. So I've had the chance to fill up again since my other posting, driving in this new fashion. I left on full, stayed the week, and filled up before leaving (with a needle over a quarter tank), and drove back on full (now sitting at a needle over half after getting home).
Miles driven: 360.9
Gallons of Fuel: 9.766
----------------------
MPG this trip: 36.95
For the record, I don't overfill, ever. I stop pumping on the first shut off. I cruised at 55mph the entire trip (it makes it easier actually because there are so many work zones). Also, it almost makes driving easier as everyone else will pass you, instead of you having to pass everyone else cruising at 75+. I think my favorite part of driving like this this isn't the added MPG, but the amusement of watching others get so frustrated and flooring it in their 6000lb+ SUV's to get around me. It makes me giggle thinking of how much gas they're using to do that
I'm not advocating to others that this driving style should suit them or anything. I'm aware that not everyone would want to drive so much slower on expressways. But think about the positives from doing so:
1 - Drastically improved fuel economy
2 - Less wear & tear on your engine (those extra 1000 revolutions per minute will add up on your engine over time)
3 - No more fear of speeding tickets, ever.
4 - Less bug & rock damage to the front of your car (yes, you know how bad it can be when you speed and debris is hitting your car at that speed)
5 - More money in your pocket
Just think about it.

dunno how it is elsewhere but here if you are going 10 below the speed limit then you will get a ticket for IMPEDING traffic.
so with our speed limits of 70 you can't just mosey along at 55 and not expect to get a ticket.

A speed limit is the fastest legal speed which motor vehicles are permitted to operate at. It's not my problem that most drivers have a care-free attitude towards the law, and want to drive 25% faster than they're legally allowed to.
Also worth noting: I've passed dozens of speed traps and state troopers the past couple of weeks doing a lot of traveling for work going anywhere from 15-20mph below the legal maximum speed limit. Guess what? Nothing happened

Feel free to pass, bro. I'll wave when you're stopped up ahead re-fueling
Do 55 on the freeway in Texas/Oklahoma and youll either get hit by a one ton duely goin 75 or ran off the road lol. Always best to just drive at the speed of traffic
Causes a lot less problems that way.
