Default About the Door on the Scion's Stereo.

Hey guys, This site has helped me really consider a scion. So hopefully in a couple days I am going to order my tC. Anyways....

If I get the tC and save up a lot of money, I want to put a screen right where the stereo is under that retractable door. Does anyone know if it can be done? or how much it will be? I think the screen would be like $1200 here. But what will the labor of putting it in cost? If anyone can help... Appreciate it.

thanks.

Yes it can be done. Screens can cost anywhere from $100 to $1500. Labor will depend on the shop. Its really easy to do yourself, but if you don't want to, I would call around to some local stereo shops and see what it cost to install.

Its a double din unit, so any double din screen should work.

I really like the kenwood touch screen double din one, but its around $1400. Doesn't fold out or anything.

yes. yes. no.

people were talking about getting this kenwood system instead of the pioneer avic-n1 which is fold out. they were worried about clearance issues with the door since the door still sticks out from the top. this screen actually folds down for you to insert the dvd into it. you can also set an angle for viewing (up and down) meaning you're not stuck viewing it at the angle of your dash. you can't swivel it left and right though.

i see, so is this the only dvd receiver unit that will fit properly in a tC for now?

I'm sure there are tons that will fit. Any of the fold out ones should work. Just mount it in the bottom din and fold it up. If you wanted to mount just a screen there, you could also do that, and then mount the reciever/dvd player elsewhere in the car.

Anything can be made to fit, its just how much work do you want to do.

Default well..

i would prefer to do as little work as possible unless the receiver is really worth it to do more work. i just need to find a good one that won't cost as much as the car. any other idea's?

I wonder where you would put the head unit in the tC. There's no extra compartment like in the xB. Maybe in the center armrest compartment? But I don't think all head units would like being mounted like that. Not to mention it would be difficult to see and control.

Okay so that Kenwood Nick was talking about just sits perfect in the door slot? or does it sit looking like a cd player and then folds out?

if it sits there... where do you insert the cd?
