Default ABS problem poll...

Hello everyone,

I am really interested in getting a tC, but I am wary of whether the ABS issues are from people who mod their suspension or people with no mods... I live on a hilly mountain and the sensitive ABS might get me in a lot of accidents.

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Thanks!

^^people have been saying that there were ABS issues with the tC. That's it's too sensitive on hills and some one even got into an accident!!

NP Jdreb
sometimes I do feel the abs kicking in under my foot
you just have to release the breaks a lil bit and u'll be fine
just don't panick

I love our car's ability to break within a very short distance, something that my corolla isn't able to do

There are perks and downsides to everything

But Scion is a Toyota and they are great cars

man, I explained this already. THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM. it just has to do with the ABS design for the tC. its too sensitive for its own good, although that post about suspension got me thinking it could have played a role.

I've never had any problems with my ABS. Infact, this is my first car ever to have ABS so I have to stop the nasty habbit of pumping my brakes.

i was in a freeway and a fat truck, I was tailgating, suddenly braked. I slammed on my brakes and the tC stopped really well. There was a split second when I heard the tires screech, but never locked.

One thing I don't like is that after about 5 days of washing my car and rims, there's brake dust on my rims again. Oh well, I'd rather have dirty rims than plant the face of my car into another car's a$$.

I've only ever had ABS kick in once in a year of driving this car, and that was only when I absolutely had to stop in the shortest distance possible and slammed my brakes to the floor. Even then, I didn't have adequate room to stop and had to do a little creative angling to just barely miss the idiot.

Besides that one incident, I've braked with a pretty decent sense of urgency and never had the ABS kick in, both before and after modified suspension. I don't think you should have issues.

Jdreb - You should have added a couple more options for a more accurate analysis. "I have ABS issues, regardless of whether my suspension is stock or modded" and "Don't have any problems at all"

L4rry_B1rd - It possibly could be a design issue. That will give us quite a large number of people that answer "yes" to having problems. We'll just have to wait and see what direction this poll goes.

So sorry. I wasn't really sure how to approach it. Budsmoke, do you have any issues?

I let a friend drive my car and he said that the brakes felt weird, like they were really sensitive.... sometimes it all depends on what you are used to/if the brake pads are new/used...might even feel different with drum/disc brakes

But I haven't had any problems with it, 2025 miles, and my suspension is not modded

He thought they were sensitive? He should drive a Honda. My mom's Pilot, dad's Acura 3.0 CL, brother's RSX- all have much, much more sensitive and confidence-inspiring brake pedal feel. My tC feels like mush after driving one of those.

5000 miles with no over-sensitive ABS issues, but I did have a bad wheel speed sensor the first 80 miles. Suspension mods are H&R coilovers and a TRD rear sway bar on "Race".
