Default Advice on what to expect: Dealer scratched my rims...

Ok, I took my car in for the oil change and service at 5000 miles (4500 to be exact). I took it to my local Toyota dealer, as the Scion/Toyota dealership I purchased the car from is a bit out of the way, 45 miles away one way. Anyway, when I was cleaning my car up after the dealer got done servicing it, I noticed some scratches around the lugnuts where they rotated the tires. Two of the rims are not very bad, could probably be buffed out, the third rim is a deep scratch and it also got the center cap that has the Scion logo on it. These are obviously from the impact gun hitting the rims, and I already called the dealership that day and let the service department know. I'm supposed to call in the morning to talk to the service manager and see about getting the vehicle back down so they can see about making it right.

My question is, those of you who work in Toyota service departments, what is the usual process for fixing these types of accidents? Will they try to buff them out? Will they just get new rims since it's so new? Or will they not do much at all?

Basically just tell me what your service department did if this has ever happened at your shop.

Thanks,

Here is someone else with an experience that almost echos yours.

If they give you a good run around, you can always get in touch with Scion if you need to. They seem to be pretty good about helping people with dealerships that are being... "slow," to put it nicely.

yea they dealer chipped the paint off of my wheels too. If the service manager doesn't do anything just go talk with the guest relations and they'll get whoever that is in charge to take care of it. You can go directly to the service director but they won't always take care of you, if you go to the guest relations first they know you are serious.

the service director which is in charge of the parts and service told me they have to replace the wheels there is no other way to fix them because the color on our wheels are too hard to touch up or match. so just bring em hell and hopefully you'll get new wheels just like me

If you have locks on your wheels, they shouldn't be using an impact gun anyway.

EDIT: Actually, they shouldn't be using the air gun at all. Those wheels would get banged up pretty easily if that gun jumped around on the lugs.

Well, they are going to try and buff them and fix them first. We will see how that goes. The wheel guy won't be there till this Friday so another week of waiting.

Yea, I agree, I don't think they should use an impact gun at all, and I don't think they are supposed to be using one on any cars but who knows how they get away with it.
