Default Aftermarket Alarm System

Hey. I'm planning on getting this car soon and I know that it comes with keyless entry as a standard. I want to install an aftermarket alarm system and use a regular key instead of the big one. Would that work? Cause I dont' want to be carrying around the remote for the alarm and the key with the keyless entry on it.

So my question is, if I install an aftermarket system. Is there away for me to just use the remote provided by the alarm and get a regular key for the car? Thanks.

Well you have to use the factory key because it has the chip inside it. Without the original key it wont work. I have heard you can use the key with aftermarket alarms. You just take it to the place where you want to buy an alarm system and tell them WHAT ALARM WITH WORK WITH THIS REMOTE! they should know from there, and if not go somewhere else HA!

You could use the valet key, its much smaller and has a chip also. Only drawback is that you wont be able to lock your glovebox.

I got a clifford responder alarm system with a remote start, and in order for that to work they had to implant the key chip in the car. Now i can use a regular key to start the car and dont have to carry around that huge thing.

How did you exactly implant the key chip in the car?

Default maybe get a key made

since the car has an immobilizer, you have to use the immobilzer bypass. i had the same concern as you and wanted to use the smaller key. however, the bigger key will not fit in the immobilizer bypass box.

see if scion will make you a master (not valet) key using the head of the valet key (no keyless entry controls). if this doesn't work, you can just ask to make another valet key and you will lose control of the glove box locking.

currently, i have the valet key in the immobilizer bypass box and am using the big key with the alarm fob.

i would not suggest taking the chip out and putting it right next to the key cylinder. this bypasses your immobilizer all the time.

if you are so inclined, you can grind down the key so that if someone were to find it, they would not be able to use it to start the car.
