Default Aluminum or Plastic [heater control ****]? tC

Some of you have an aluminum heater control **** ( the big round one in the middle of your tC console) and someof you have plastic. Just wondering if any of you have noticed.

On Scion Life tC homw page its says it should be metal. In the Car and Driver August edition it also says its metal. Mine is plastic and I emailed Toyota and they gave the brush off and told me to go see my salesman. So far he is of no help either. I dont blame him , he didn't manufacture the car.

here is my post from another Scion site
I read several reviews that said the heater control **** on the Scion tC was Aluminum but mine is clearly plastic.

Are any of yours out there Aluminum???

read here:
http://www.caranddriver.com/article...p;page_number=1

QUOTE:.....and metallic-look accents, and the large HVAC **** actually is aluminum.

and here:
https://www.scionlife.com/tc/

QUOTE: .........seams in the sporty fabric seats and paper-textured dash. The gauges on the dash self-calibrate when you turn the ignition on (zoom to max and back to zero) and the heater **** is a hefty chunk of aluminum.

UPDATE: All ***** are cast aluminum /machined faced. It appears some were clear cloated and others like mine were painted. I am very sorry for this!!

how do you know for sure it's not aluminum? i don't think they'd switch that metal **** for a plastic one during the beginning of it's distribution. did you actually take it out and drop it on the ground to see if it gave off a metallic sound? it could just seem to be plastic... the aluminum trim on the 330Ci is plastic, but the console area, although it felt like plastic was actually a metal piece.

might be really thin or hollow and gives off a weird sound or light feeling like plastic but it probably is metalic

I took a sharp pen knife and shaved the edge of the **** ,then heated the small shaving with a bic lighter and it melted. Also after shaving a small piece from the **** the silver color is gone. Behind the paint is brown/sandy colored plastic.

madpb, definitely complain man... Scion is fu-cocked if they are switching that around. definitely a case for false advertising and even though it's just a ****, it's the principle.

mine's plastic... i was a little suspicious when it felt exactly the same as the rest of the dash.

maybe toyota will allow us to take it in and get it switched out?

This is some BS if it is true. Toyota has been boasting the "cast aluminum ****" everywhere. Has anyone confronted them about this?

Edit: ah, good job getting in contact with them. now I need to go see if mine is real.

Mine definitely appears to be plastic. But, it sounds like others have aluminum, why would they be different? -Jayme
