Default Another tC totalled

Well my brother was driving our tC on the highway yesterday going about 45mph (snowing pretty hard), hit a patch of sludge on the left side of the car then it spun out and hit the median twice, luckily he did not hit any other cars in the process. He managed to walked out of the accident unharmed which he credits entirely to the tC. A cop gave him a ticket for speeding in bad conditions (we are going to fight it) without bothering to actually ask how fast he was going. The car was a 2005 Indigo Ink tC with side air bags, Pirelli Pzero tires (which I had bought hoping they would be better for snowy conditions), and an s2000 antenna. 38,000 miles on the car and was in very good condition when this happened (heck, we had new breaks put on, the oil changed, and the air filter changed last Thursday and the accident happened the following Monday). Looking at either a new tC or a Volkswagen Rabbit 4 door.

Positive camber AND negative camber- I feel a new trend coming on.

Good to hear that your brother was alright.

I think it's the antenna.
All the totaled tCs have it.
I'm getting rid of mine ASAP.
No, wait, I know how to drive.

Glad your bro is OK, but too fast for conditions is just as dangerous as racing or speeding over your limits.

^^ LOL. Atleast the antenna is still there. In all seriousness that sucks. Glad to see the Curtains went off though.

man that's too bad. hopefully you can get another one. Is it possible that you can get the ignition light piece that lights up a white ring. I need that whole part that goes over the ignition if anyone has it..

Thanks,
JOE

I spent all yesterday and today at dealerships trying to find a car in our budget. Choices wound up being a Mazda 3 5door (hatchback) touring, 4 Door Rabbit, and another tC. Test driving all of them, the Rabbit was my favorite, but ultimately whatever new car we get will be a joint decision between my brother and I. My moms mostly in favor of the 3 (she drives a CX-7 so shes bias towards Mazda), but browsing Mazda 3 Forums is where I found out that the Rabbit even existed -- a lot of members were trading in their current 3's for Rabbits due to constant issues they were having. Also, power means nothing to me -- the first car we looked at was the Yaris, but it was too stripped out for our likings. We were quoted 18,900 otd on a new tC with side airbags and manual transmission, and a Rabbit was $19,100 otd with manual.

yeah i have to agree, the whole front end (both wheels, i still can't imagine how that happened) AND rear pass quarter panel are destroyed. That would not have happened going 45. :D lol, [at least] 3 wheels are mashed in/out...was he doing donuts or something?

funny, he credits the tc to saving him, when in actuality, if it had AWD, or at least a LSD, you would probably still have your car in tact.

can't say i'm altogether surprised though...

but alas, that sucks.

Too bad about the tC. Enjoy the VW service dept., you'll be seeing a lot of it.

Are Volkswagen's really that bad? It is not set in stone what car we will be getting, so any opinions about the 3 cars we are considering would be nice. As far as the tC goes - our moon roof deflector shattered on the highway while it was closed about a week or two before the official recall came out, and we were in the shop for the side air bag recall as well -- both not so serious recalls, but recalls none the less.

This doesn't make the TC look bad, this makes poor driving conditions just go to show that it can happen to anyone.

VW's do suck that much, and don't be deterred by the recalls. Be thankful (as you are) they were minimal. Anytime a new model comes out, recalls are inevitable to a certain standpoint. If you were to get an 07 model, those recalls have been worked out and are not an issue any longer. Just look at the 150,000+ cars that HONDA is recalling.

We bought a used VW. CHeck engine light came on on the way home from the dealer. Took to a VW dealer for repair. The dealer we bought it from forked out $1800. All told, in 8 months of ownership 6 CELs, 2 map sensors, 3 oxygen sensors, 1 catylitic converter, and numerous other issues. Luckly all were covered under warantees and recalls but it would have cost $7550 in repairs on a 5 year old car with 60000 miles. Once it was running like a top, we got rid of it (I won't sell or trade a car in poor condition).
