This is pure speculation, but I'm guessing they will reduce the price once the new Scion coupe model is released in year or two.

the 06 charger wasnt really different then the 05.
they had to redesign it for the 07 and up models cause of the changes they made to the engine, so it made the older one "obsolete" so to speak. just like when the newer version of, say, a video game system is released, the older model will get a deep price cut but the newer will be expensive until the next model is out.

^ I always thought the only difference they made between the '05 to the '06 & '07 was the exhaust manifold clearance for the SC shaft.

couldn't they just slap on a '05 exhaust manifold on an '07 tC?

the difference is the supercharger itself not necissarily the rest of the engine.
visually, in addition to the adjusted mounting brackets, they have a different locking bolt for the pulley cause of people frauding them out for warrenty work and the shaft bolts up differently to the turbine housing and the intake box is completly replaced instead of just half of it changed out.

you can still unbolt the pulley, you have to go through some drastic measures though, theres a thread somewhere in this section about it. you can do the same things you want with it, its just harder now cause of TRD having to go through even more measures to stop people from frauding them out for work.

They also changed the fuel/air maps on the 07+ tC's so that is another reason why you can't use the 05-06 S/C on the newer models. It does suck that the 07+ are so much more expensive but as of right now we don't see a drop in the price coming up anytime soon.

Nope the 05-06 uses one kit, the 07+ tC's use another kit.
