Default Anyone else have funny smell when using heat?

This is my 5th new car, and I have had my Scion TC for 4 months. When I put the temperature gauge to hot, there is a weird smell, like some plastic is burning or something. Anyone else have this funny smell when using heat?

how many miles are you at?

the first 40-80 miles, i smelled plastic burning too. i assume there was a plastic wrapper in the engine bay somewhere but that wont really harm your car.

if you're talking about wet dog kind of smell or dog pee pee, Yeah, I did, but it wasnt when I turn the temp to hot, but when i turn on the AC after who-knows-how-long I havent been using the AC. That's probably y, i assumed. I dont like to use AC much b/c i believe it kills the power, I like to roll down the windows and enjoy the full potential of my tC. You really can tell the difference, just turn on the AC when u're moving and u'll feel this little "pull" that slows u down. I hate that :o

My car has over 2000 miles now. The only time I smell it is when I turn the temperature to hot. I only just started using heat because it started getting cold. Anyone else have a smell when they use heat?

i only got 600 miles and i def smelt that....i thought maybe it was the tires, or the clutch but i think it was the heat....my guess is that it is burning off some of the glue used to hold the vents in place

alot of times in brand new production cars, things need to be broken in, AC is one of those. AC units can tend to have a smell for a while until everything settles. At least thats what i've heard...dog pee pee tho...

There were a few days recently when the temperature dropped and I had to use the heat in the mornings. I turned the heat all the way up each time. In those three days of using the heat, I never smelled anything funny. I guess I'll pay more attention to that when it starts getting cold again.

yeah.... i have been noticing a sulpher smell of some sort... never inside the car, i smell it only once i get out after driving around a bit (and usually w/ the heat on)... I only have 1300+ miles on this xA, so i'm hoping that it is just something in there settling in. If it goes on much longer I'lll take it in. As for now, it seems to be staying outsdie of the car. lets just hope it stays there.

When you get a new car, the brakes need to be broken in. That usually results in a burning smell. Since you're opening up the vents, it might be coming through the wheels, through the engine compartment, throught the vents, and into the interior.
