Default Anyone having difficulty filling their tank?

Lately I've been unable to fill my tank without holding the lever down because the pump automatically shuts itself off becausae it thinks the tank was full...

It was quite empty however.. In order to get gas into it I have to hold the pump-spout halfway into the gas tank opening and hold it down until I know it's almost full... If I waited for it to kill itself I'm afraid I'd be sprayed with gas, and that wouldn't be fun..

Anyone else experiencing this? I was thinking there was some sort of back pressure causing this... Both times this has happened my refuel light was on if that could affect it.

This happened to me once before, but it's only happened at one particular gas station and I happened to be drunk but I'm sure that didn't factor in since pumping gas is pretty self explanatory. Questions to ask your self: Does this always happen at a particular gas station or pump? If so try another one to see if the results are replicated. I'm not sure how the auto stop function works so I can't help ya with that one. It seemed though that the pump it happened to me on had a bent nozzle or it was a really tight fit to get it in.

Hope this helps,

English

It has occured now 3 times at Superamerica (2x) and BP (1x) but all 3 were different gas stations.

I think the autostop works by a small floating piece of plastic that when it is placed in fluid it's forced upwards and flips a switch. Not positive though, just assuming my looking down the barrel of my local gas pumps! =x

octane isn't gonna matter.......this has happened to me at pumps all over the place....and with many different vehicles.....my own thoughts are that when filling, the velocity of the gas going into the tank is interrupted by backpressure or non-conformity of the filler neck....when this happens, there is engough gas splashed up onto or into the switch sensor causing it to flip off.....I've found that by pulling straight up on the handle, starting and locking the nozzle, and letting it down further into the tank slowly usually keeps it from kicking...

this is a common issue with all models...

i feel it has more to do with the filler nozzel, at some stations it will do it, others have no problem....
