Apparently the tC is a high-risk car for insurance companies

My renewal notice from state farm came today.
My 6 month premium just went up $65, supposedly because "the claim experience on your make and model of vehicle has resulted in an increase to your vehicle raiting group for comprehensive and/or collision coverages.
Gah. Must be a lot of idiot kids crashing these things, because the accompanying notes say that most costomers should see a decrease in premiums.
It's now 633/6 mo for me, a 26 y.o. M in semi-rural MI with 100/300/100 and a 100 deductible comprehensive/500 collision deductible.

The tc has got a 4/5 star crash rating!! Nice. Some of you with rate hikes should ask your insurance adjuster why your rates are going up when you have an highly-rated safe car. It's BS. Or check and see if your state has laws against penalizing you because other people with the same car get into crashes. It's a completely unfair system and I think a lot of states have laws against it.
Think about it this way: Let's pretend all the cars in America disappear and are replaced with 2006 Honda Civics. Obviously, the 'number of incidents' in a Honda Civic is going to double, triple, quadruple because there are more out on the road!! It's not fair to raise rates based on the number of incidents in a specific car. As a matter of fact, when I think about it, it totally makes sense there are more incidents with a tc...it's because there are more tc's on the road this year than last year!! Your insurance companies are screwing you all big time.

ok, i think the actuaries go a little bit beyond "there are more cars of this make on the road." I'm no statistician, but just because you have an increase in the number of cars, the number of incidents should be relative. They would not be looking simply at volume, but at rate. if the rate of inidents has gone up disproportionate to the number of vehicles they cover...well there's your math.
But with this completely unqualified opinion i could see the possibilities. More of these on the road, and i would imagine that the demographic is a younger and less experienced driver. Just look at the number of 17-20 year olds on this board. I'll bet a large swath of tC drivers are in assigned risk. Compare that with the civic/accord and i think the numbers will be very different. Combine those actuary tables with a generous helping of "tuner crowd", and throw in a dash of "people in coupes like to mash the gas a bit more than those in sedans."

i talked to a freind in claims, my premium went up too. apparentley they have had a high ratio of scion Tc claims, alot from major accidents and "vandalism" which means insurnance fraud. so they are passing the increase along to other TC drivers, what is intresting is they said they were single car accidents which means several things people are speeding and loosing control of thier cars.
im shopping right now for different coverage anyways and I heard liberty mutual and all state have better protection for the people who are not F-ing it up for the rest of the Tc drivers.

Of course it's going to go up. Stupid people are buying the tC and racing/wrecking it. So insurance companies make the generalization that anyone that gets a tC is going to do that.
If the idiots would stop getting into accidents that could be avoided by not being a complete moron, our insurance would be fine.

insurance companies pull shady stuff all the time. It could be 1000 dollars different depending on the person. I have more expensive insurance with the same company than my friend does and he has a couple wrecks and I don't have anything on my record.
the tc is seriously soo cheap to insure. I play around with USAA quotes (which have my full credit info etc so this is a 'final' quote and im signed on my account) and its damn near impossible to get cars lower than the tC without them being horribly boring
no rates raised here. i have Mercury Insurance.
however, i don't have my car right now as it is being looked at to determine if the insurance company is going to consider it a total loss....
some non-English speaking truck driver ran a red light a mashed up my car at an intersection.
i think i might get the LS 250 now. especially since toyota has already had to replace the bottom end of my engine.
at least i got about 12000 miles on it.
