Default attn: all white tc owners.

i just noticed yesterday when washing my car, the back bumper has these little rust like spots on them. you can't really notice them unless you are right in the bumper's face. has this happened to anyone else? I don't live around alot of trees or anything with pollen, so what's the deal? thanks.

That is most likely 'rail dust.' It is basically small bits of metal that settle themselves into the clear coat of the paint and then rust. They get onto the car as it is being transported on a train or even a truck. On certain vehicles that have had many examples of rail dust, TSB's (technical service bulletins) are released so that customers can bring thier car in to thier dealership and get them taken out. It should not damage the paint at all and is usually very easy to fix. Sometimes the spots just "bake" out after being exposed to enough sunlight

Claying your car can be another quick easy way to get rail dust out. My white Mitsu eclipse had it very bad and it took me about 30 minutes to clean it all away....

I have this on my white box mostly on the bumbers. It was really bad (all over the whole car) on my white beetle. Must be a common thing with all cars.
I just buffed them out with a high speed buffer. I'm too lazy to clay bar.

i got POed
it was faint but i saw it!
i waxed it once or twice.. and poof.. it was gone...
but the paint scratches down to the primer are going to have to wait

I'm white and I own a tC, should I be worried?

Sorry, at first when I read the title, i thought white was referring to the race of the owner .

wow that was a very accurate diagnosis. I wasn't aware that so many people out there even knew about the rail dust.

This is actually the primary reason that most cars are transported now from factory to dealership with the white plastic glued onto much of the cars body.

Most of my cars before tC were white.

They all have the similar problem.... Little dot thing on top of the rear bumper...

I guess clay will take them out... I haven't try it my self... I will try it next time...

I got my tC for over 3 months now... So far so good...
