Is it bad to drive in "2"?

Just floor it, the transmission will downshift automatically.
exactly...it will do it for you
the only reason you should shift into 2 is if you are going down a hill and need the engine braking

wow, i can't believe somebody actually asked that.

if you drive around in a low gear, you'll be putting a load on your engine it was not designed to sustain for long periods of time. you'll be visiting scion for some warranty powertrain work far sooner than you should.

Sounds like somebody got the wrong type of transmission... Why didn't you buy a stick??

The funny thing is, the way you described it, that's how I started driving my last car (civic) because it was automatic and i desparately wanted a manual tranny. (Of course i would put the shifter back into "D" when I didn't need the high revving power though)

try it well if you have access to an auto tc of course. it should shift from 1-2-3 and hold 3rd. you can see the revs stay high. but revving after 5k doesn't do much for ya in stock form so not sure what mph that translates to but if you plan on going faster than that you gotta shift to D.
