Default beeping when seat belt is off

is there a way to make the car stop beeping when the seat belt is not on
i allways wear my seat belt but i had a case of water on the passenger seat and took the belt off to go to the mac machine

i know it only beeps for like 20 or 30 seconds but when it is annoying it seems like it beeps forever

can you pull the fuse or rip the beeper out or ???

This will work for all Scion / Toyota.

It can be turned off.
1.) Power on (ignition on will do)
2.) Set trip/ODO to ODO (if its already on ODO you will have to cycle through)
3.) Power off
4.) Power on w/brake on
5.) (Within 6 seconds), press and hold the ODO for 10 seconds or more
6.) While STILL holding the ODO *after 10 seconds*, buckle BOTH seatbelts. Now release the ODO
7.) You will see in the trip display either a "b on" or "b off"
8.) Press the ODO to toggle between "b on" or b off" YOU WANT "b off"
9.) Now power off.

If battery is disconnected, you may lose your setting. Default is always "b on"

you can just unplug the sensor under the seat, its the smaller of the two plugs...

Yeah that is the method I used for the first time. But I just installed my sub and didn't remember this method so figured I would give it a shot off the top of my head. I just turned the key on, held the trip reset button for 10 seconds (when on ODO), and then plugged both seat belts in and it brought up the "b on" and I cycled it to "b off" and turned the key to the off position. My foot was probably on the brake just out of habit.

Does the airbag still work if that is unplugged?

Yeah I have been in one and that is one of the reasons I bought the tC is because it is so safe. Just because I turn off the annoying beep that reminds me to do what I always do does not mean that I am not wearing my seatbelt. It just means I don't like the annoying beep.

he's not talking about you, he's talking about your passengers. we know you wear your seatbelt. but do you always check to make sure your passenger is?? thats the point of the beeping. your ultimately responsible for everyone in your car, whether they remember to buckle their seatbelt or not.

i guarantee you very soon cars will not engage into drive until the seatbelt is clicked in.

Yup I check to make sure they click the seatbelt on. I used to own an old Honda Accord with the auto strap ones and you have to tell people to do the lap belts in those cars. No one every remembered the lap belt so it has become habit to make sure everyone is buckled up. I figure if you are not smart enough to buckle your seatbelt that is fine with me just don't do it in my car. Plus I am sure someone has tried to bring a lawsuit up over something like that and I don't want to be apart of that.

Ok so OP yoru seatbelt was off and you think cause there was a case of water in the passenger seat thats why it was beeping? You just didnt write you post very well. But if your seatbelt is on there is no beaping even if there is someone in the passenger seat without there seatbelt on. The light will blink down under your A/c controls where it tells you if the airbag is on or not. But it doesnt beep as long as your seatbelt it on. Unless your car is wierd.

If the seatbelt detector connector is unplugged it often disables the airbags for that seating position in most cars because the system can no longer be sure there is a passenger with a fastened seatbelt, and without that, no airbag.

Either fasten the belt around whatever is in the passenger seat to stop the beeping or put up with the beeping.

Setting up your passengers for more injury than needed in case of accident is NOT a good trade-off for not being annoyed for a few seconds. Don't fiddle with anything that could affect passenger safety. (Messing with your OWN safety is your call.)

The beep can be programmed not to happen, and doing it that way (the proper way) is the safest for your unsuspecting passenger because it doesn't disable the secondary protection.

Best response, though, is to always fasten the belt if there is anything in the seat...

I think I know what he is talking about, when I moved my stuff in for school, I had my TV in the passenger seat and it made the seatbelt beep go off. The beep will go off if the passenger doesn't have their seat belt on, even if the driver does. So the water was probably heavy enough to set it off.

What? No it doesnt. I have heavy stuff all the time and it never beeps. It only does it if my seatbelt isnt fastened. Do you people have 05-06 models? Cause it dont do this on the 07 and it would be stupid if it does this cause it means you ahve to buckle down a case of water. Stupid!!

I have an 08, if I have my seat belt on and the passenger doesn't it will go off! So if there is anything that is heavy enough in the seat it will make it go off.

You can check the owner manual, it says it in there. pg, 108 of the 2008 manual, says, If luggage or other load is placed on the front passenger seat, depending on its weight, the reminder light will flash and the buzzer will sound. Yea, maybe water is not heavy enough but the times I have had my TV in the passenger seat it has gone off.

I have head plenty heavy stuff on there. more than 60 pounds many times and nothing. My wife has sat there as well without her seatbelt and nothing. The airbag light works too. This makes no sense for them to have this anyways.

I don't know then man, that is just how my car is, maybe your car is different? If I had a camera I would prove it. It has beeped at a lot of my friends for not buckling up. I know if the passenger doesn't buckle up in my car it will go off.

Even my box beeps if over 30 pounds is put on the passenger seat without the belt being buckled...

Pretty much standard on any current passenger vehicle (I suspect it may be an NHTSA requirement, I.E. Federal Law).

I wonder if one of my plugs came undone. I will check now. But i would rather my car didnt do this anyways. That be stupid to buckle the seatbelt for a package or something.
