Default Best way to attach mosquito screening to the tC?

Uh,

Next time my city is underwater and I have to sleep in my car for a few weeks and it's hot as heck and there are mosquitoes draining my blood,

uh,

can anyone think of a good way to put mosquito screens on the side windows and/or sunroof opening. I don't suppose there is some kind of premade solution out there -- or how might I go about making something that folds down to very little, yet installs very easily... something not ugly. I suppose I could come up with some kind of velcro solution?

sadly, no

the mosquitoes arrived tonite in new orleans

mosquitoes like haven't been in this country since yellow fever was eradicated.

i'm gonna bet that yellow fever reappears here again first time in 80 years or so.

i wish i were joking

our levy's aren't fixed

the pumps aren't working (we just found that out last week), the motors burn up when they get turned on.

i hate this place but have to live here another 8 months.

even a cat1 will put us underwater again.

it's like the bomb was dropped here, but the rest of the country thinks we're just find and everything is back to normal.

it's not.

so i'm serious about the screening, if anyone has any ideas. how about magnets?

OMG.. i didnt realize your were in New Orleans, and i didnt see the problem but i figure now i can advise you.

the best thing i believe that you can do is just velcro is.. and maybe do a custom frame for it to mount to. because you wanna be able to take it off and what not... so you can just use brackets and a bent metal wire or something

but damn.. that sux

I would consider going to a hardware store and buy a few rolls of blue painters tape and mosquito screen. You can cut the screens to the desired lengths, then seal them on your windows with painters tape. That way, you won't damage the paint on your tC and it can reapply when needed.

You could use magnets.

I understand your loathing of mosquitos. Ours can carry off your children here Sorry to hear that you are stuck there for 8 months and hope things start looking up for you.

Wow, I am actually glad I live in Iowa after reading that post. We have to dodge a tornado every once in a while, but none of that hurricane stuff.

get some tiki torches and place them around your car. They keep the bugs away.

not too sure about the paper your thinking of but isnt it double sided and really sticky?

You could always just buy some bug spray..

Or just keep your windows up and sunroof closed.

In Iraq I had to sleep outside with lots of bugs flying around. Go to a miltary surplus store and get a misquito net. They are pretty big and should cover the roof and the two windows.

You could also try an outdoors type store like G.I. Joes or even Walmart.

You should have posted this in a regional form, these cats have no understanding of what you are dealing with.

Tiki torches? Please, these are Louisiana skeeters. They love those things, just helps them to find us walking blood sacks all the better.

Bug spray? These things sit around and get high on that stuff.

The vet said it best. You need something that will cover the car from the outside. Something that will drape over it. Just make sure that the wind won't carry blow it loose so the microvamps can't slip under.

If you can get it in Kevlar, do it.

There are few things more misirable than laying out at night in Louisiana in the middle of summer with no a/c. That's why they drink so much down there, it's the only way to sleep with no a/c.

Thanks everyone for the replies and ideas. I think this one is best. I'm gonna pick up some mosquito netting ASAP.

QUESTION: With this giant mosquito net, who will put it around the car for you when you are about to go to sleep, and what happens when you wake up?

he can open his sunroof, stick out of it and drape it that way. just do it from center out. im sure that stuff will just slide to the sides of the car..

good luck with everything!

What if you focused your efforts?

Instead of trying to protect the car, protect yourself. You can find mosquito nets that protect a cot. Try rigging up something similar - say some ~14-18" PVC pipes for "legs" that support a rectangular frame. Attach your netting to that frame (with the top a 4' by 6' rectangle). Then fold down the rear seats, and set up your structure there. sleep inside it, and leave all the windows and rear door open. You would get more wind that way, too.
