Default Blue Tape Theory...

So...I am sure everyone has seen at Car Shows people applying the 3M Painters Blue Tape on the Front End on their cars to protect them from road debris etc..

Does actually work well???.....

This weekend I will be driving like 300 miles round-trip to 2 different Car Events.

I bought some Blue Tape and applied it to my car to "test" this theory...

Anyone else have any experiences???

We just drove 2300 miles to Scion United and 2300 miles back with blue tape. Got a lot of funny looks but yes, it does work. Tape from the top down on your hood and overlap about 1/2 to 1 inch. Don't double layer it if it is going to rain. The top layer will fly right off. We used it on our 2008 xB.

I agree 100% the tape does help a lot! at the very least you will have a lot less bugs (and bug guts can eat at our paint, like everything else... damn cheap paint)

When I went to united, I used 3" blue tape, easy to put on, and didn't take long at all!

A lot of autox'rs do this, especially on high end cars. However, I dont because cone scars typically just buff off. But yes, it will help. But if you keep your car waxed well, you may find it wont stick very long

Yes and that brings up another good point, it is best to wash your car AFTER you get to your destination, to sorta ensure the tape stays.

it does work but to be honest you can buy a similiar tape which is like 3-4 times wider and its like 10 times easier and faster to install it...

btw its not blue.. its like..... butter color...

I've heard it can also damage paint.

3M also makes a "clear bra" but can be pricey

it cant damage your paint because the blue tape which is the painters tape is not that strong... if you have a spray painted poop car then yes.. it will damage your car... your factory paint??? dont think so..

im installing vinyl on cars for living.. im know what im talking about.. if you have poop paintjob dont wrap or tape your car:D

Lol, this is funny cuz I was just using blue painters tape to mask off some stuff to paint my "logo" on my skateboard deck lol.

Never really thought of using it for this purpose though. So you cover the ENTIRE hood and front bumper???

Oh and found this on a BMW forum, a spray-on bra that peels off in one sheet after it dries.

This may be a bit extreme, but...

Oh, and on that same forum that I found that pic, I saw where one guy said he put duct tape on top of the painters tape.

An audi with the same thing done to it. If I had only been given a quick glimpse of it, I would've thought it just had a matte blue paint job lol.

Griots is a local shop here and from what I understand it works well but is spendy.........I am going to a detailing day they are puttign on for the locals and willask about it......

Blue tape works great to keep the bugs down and also chips off the hood and bumper and sides on long trips.........used it a couple of weeks back to got a show and made cleaning the nose of car so much easier after the bugs back on it is a pain to get them off the car.........LOL.

If anything it could go as Pelican Blue which is the sexiest color for a S4
