Default Brake - Pad Support Plate (metal clip) Question

Before I start, *if* there is already a thread about this, I couldn't find it and yes I did search. I google'd and youtube'd as well. I know how crazy people get about that stuff.

The aftermarket brake pads (front & rear) that were put on by a mechanic only about a month ago make a very loud noise when coming to a stop. It's annoyingly unbearable that I just bout bought front and rear Toyota pads and shims for my tC from the dealer to get rid of the "VGX" pads (never heard of them before) that are on there now.

My question is about these metal clips. The instruction sheet that came with pads says they're "Pad Support Plates". 4 came with the front set of shims and 2 came with the rear set. Does anyone know how many I need per pad and where they go (top or bottom)? Also, there's another metal clip-like device on the caliper mount where the pads that are on now slide in between the caliper mount - I'm not sure of that came with these VGX pads he put on or if that's something that's from Toyota and should stay on. I forgot to take a pic of that before I put the wheel back on.

Notice the "hole" on the side of the pad where you can see the metal clip "clips" into. Thanks for the help!

yes! remove those clips and put on the new pads.

there should only be 1 clip per pad at the end of it...not a clip on each side.
